Default "Barn Fresh" & Cars Still Just Rotting Away

Hey Guys,
Figured it was time to start a new thread on this topic since it's so popular and since the cars & storys are still out there.... Case in point, I went to a local small town speed shop the other day and came upon the Firebird you see here. When I asked the young woman behind the counter about the car she said it's been sitting there since she was 5 years old (she looked about 20) . I asked what the story was and was told the guy never paid. a few minutes later the owner came out so I asked him if he wanted to sell it and he said it will sit there until it turns to dust The young lady then said why don't you just sell it, to which he replied, "it's complicated" and they started to bicker about it. Anyway, I left and the car still sits there. Don't think I want to buy parts for my GTO from someone who wants a Firebird to turn to dust .

BTW, there's also a pic I took on my way to a car show last week (my car's really orange).......

I see this all the time.I know of 3 cars in one persons front yard.A 65 GP w/8lugs,4spd,ect,A 68 Cat 2dr 4 or 3 spd,and another 65 GP.Every time i go to my friends house i stop and leave a note on the cars asking if he wants to sell one or two.I see lots of Pontiacs in my travels,i remember the location and go back some times and ask if its for sale. Some times i get lucky.I know of a 76 T/A good shape,a Mexican guy owns it and will not sell it.It just sits in the back yard rotting away.

I've posted these before, they still sit there uncovered etc. The worse part about these is they are nice looking cars; either garaged there whole life (up to this point) or were restored at some time. Hard to believe not even worth throwing a cover on . BTW, Not For Sale.

This car belongs to my wife's friend. Twelve or so years ago someone tried to steal the wheels of it. The thief only got as far as to remove the front wheel bolts. The car was being driven when the wheel fell off and did the damage to the fender. The car had just had the engine rebuilt and new paint. It has sat ever since. The guy has offered to sell it to me three times and when I tell him I'm interested and I'd like to come look at it, he gets cold feet. So it has sat uncovered in his Dad's backyard dying a slow death.

Not a Pontiac find, but still a GM car. I am a fan of the 1971-76 GM "clamshell" wagons. There is a old lady here locally that has a LIKE NEW, 1972 Chevrolet Caprice Kingswood Estate wagon. She drives a late 90s Cadillac, but in her garage (with doors always opened), sets the 72' Kingswood Estate and a like new 75' Cadillac Sedan deVille. I tracked her down (at her other house), but looking up her address on the internet search. When I talked to her on the phone, she said she did not want to sell it now. That was 3 years ago. Since then, I have left letter after letter on her doors and no response. I have given up. I have told her I would care for the car and get it back in perfect working order, but obviously she does not care. I know a guy that told me about it.... he had been trying to get it too, but just for the factory 402 engine!

Default S.O.S. 1968 GTO Needs Help!

This car is sitting in my town and needs a new owner. The good news is, this car can be bought for a pretty reasonable price. It's more than I want to take on right now. Thought I would show it here because A.) it is sitting outside and going to get worse and B.) Someone may see this and be interested in it. Here's what I know:
was originally a 4-speed car (pedal is still there)
It's got no motor or trans in it currently
Comes w/ a 455 block only
Auto Trans
From what I saw the frame looks good eventually would need some bodywork; has filler in the quarters but not all cracked up.
Owner said he would take $3,300.00 for it....
Any takers?

I found a project 69 GTO 4spd, #'s car awhile ago. Needed a complete resto, but was all there. Only problem was the guy was asking near 7k for it and it needed all the floors (including trunk) and quarter panels. Too much money for me. I also know where two rare olds are. A 68 W-30 car 4spd. owner comtemplates of rather or not to get rid of it, priced it to me once and then backed out. And the other is a 69 Hurst Olds, one owner, stored in a barn, don't want to sell. Maybe someday.

At least he doesn't want them to derby them. A guy I know bought a running Townsman wagon in good shape to derby it.
I hate derby people.

all rise....I know the story on the bird setting at the speed shop!

Back when I was fresh out of high school I bought almost everything there for my V8 Astre(even though it had a BRAND X engine in it). And the car was there then, and my 25 year reunion is next year......anyway the guy had work done on it, and then wouldnt or couldnt pay the bill, they ended up in court over it, and as long as the guy pays towards the bill the shop owner cant do anything........so the shop owner gets to add intrest and the car owner pays around $2 a month and his bill keeps getting higher and higher, I guess one day the car owner will die and then the car maybe able to be sold, but believe me every PONTIAC nut with in a 100 mile radius has asked about it, and is probably on a list as long as a 5 yr olds Christmas wish list to be able to purchase it!

on another note, I knew a guy who had a 67 RS/SS 396 Camaro. It sat in the woods and I watched for it everytime I went to see my grandmother. When I got my drivers liscense and my first car, also an RS camaro, I drove up one day and asked about the car, NO it wasnt 4sale at any price. The owners wife did allow me to walk down with her and take a look at it. I peaked in the window, and saw the console gauges, 4speed, fold down seat, tilt wood wheel, and power windows. As I walked around the car I asked if I could pop the hood, she smiled, and said, sure. I was greeted by the 375HP decal on the chrome air cleaner, chrome valve covers and oil fill tube, and it appeared untouched with factory manifolds. I smiled back(as any 17yr old kid would) as I closed the hood. We walked back up and I continually glanced over my shoulder at it. A year later I stopped back and talked to the owner, same old story...."Im gonna fix'er up someday". I stopped by every year after that and asked about the car. Every year it was the same, a smile and a NO. 1 day I stopped by and I asked him if he would allow me to pump up the tires on the car and pull it out of the woods, throw some roofing tin down under it to keep the weeds away from it, his response was why??? with a very confused look on his face. I said well, that way when it comes time to fix'er up youll have less work. He walked outside with me and we aired up the tires with his portable compessor. We talked about the car and how I had become a familiar face. BUT it still wasnt 4sale, I laughed and said I know, but I couldnt see it rot away. A month later I drove by only to see an empty hole in the woods where the Camaro sat. I almost wrecked the car as I peered into the woods in disbelief. I spun around pulled into the drive and ran up to knock on the door. His wife came to the door, and I said, "did he sell it?" She smiled and said nope, take a look around back......I walked back to see the car on 4 jackstands on a concrete pad. Seems my intrest sparked his intrest. There was also a large pile of sand and some bricks. Yep, he was building a Gargage. So the tired old Camaro was still being fixed up last time i was by, but atleast its not becoming 1 with nature any longer.
