Mike,

Can you buy PB BLASTER in bulk volume? I read where you poured 1/2 gallon down this eng in attempt to unstick it.

I have never seen it in large containers but dont have commercial sources some of you might have in business.
I have only seen it local in spray cans.
Thanks.....

Jeff, it's available thru several sources online in gallons.

Locally our NAPA store stocks it in gallons and rattle cans.

Trans fluid will also work in the cylinders to help free up the rings.

I've run trans fluid thru it mixed with PB Blaster, That's worked well for me in the past. I've been under it with Large prybars on the flywheel, broke The longest 1/2" breaker bar that Snap On makes on the balancer bolt trying to get this one loose. It's stuck tight!

I pulled a Valve cover on it yesterday to see the condition of the engine internally and it's CLEAN. Oil is clean and no metal shavings on the stick. It was obviously well cared for during it's previous life and IME those are the ones that stick the tightest, so to avoid more carnage than has already been done I'm just going to pull it and preform and autopsy.

I had a '69 that I had picked up from a friend I knew in high school, he had the motor set up on him when he started it on a cold morning, at the time I was working at the local gas station & repair shop, we put the thing on a lift one night and wedged an ice breaker bar in the flywheel and started to let the lift down which was the old air/hydraulic post style, by the time I caught up with the lift pressure the front of the car was a good foot off the lift and the motor broke loose, she ran after that, but knocked bad and blew up 2 days later... ahh memories.

Charles, ?Information is a good thing, especially when dealing with an out of date ignition system that looks cool hanging on the firewall!

Thanks a lot, I'll have the wife print them out and if any don't come thru i'll let you know.

Dragging this back to the top.

Pulled the engine out of this thing today. Appeared to unmolested Vin stamped on the block matches the car. Stuck tighter than hell wouldn't budge after a gall on PB blaster was dumped in the cyl's last fall and I filled the block until it was running out the valve covers with a mixture of used engine oil and kerosene. Left it sit all winter and still won't budge so out it came. Putting the engine out of my Firebird 'vert in it for now. 68 block so it'll appear to be right.

A/C still had freon in it.Oil was nasty tho so that'll get flushed.

Trans fluid ran out pink.

Anitfreeze that was left came out green, Water pump is stuck as hard as the crank is.

P/S has a cooler on it. First I've ran into that on one of these.

Carb appears to be OE.

Ink stamp still on the Steering gear, Front pump of the trans has a number ink stamped on it also.

No apparent numbers on the firewall but it's pretty filthy. I don't think I'll clean it up this time, Probably will do that when the original block goes back in.

I doubt this was overheated it sat for 33 years without turning over. That'll stick one every time.

When I get around to tearing it down I'll update that info.

BTW, this car is a bloodthirsty bastard.

Mike,I had a '69 GP with a 428 and it had also sat for a long time. The motor was also stuck,so myself and a friend pulled the engine thinking the worst.Ending up being the top of the cylinders had moisture in them from sitting.Ending up going .030 over and the crank stayed std/std.When we took it apart it ended up being the cleaniest engine the friend of mine ever pulled apart and he does that for a living,Good Luck.

As of right now I'm not going to tear the OE unit down. I may do that this winter or after the 65's back on the road. I've got a suspiscion the pistons have grown fast to the cyl walls.

Eventually this car will get the full treatment but for now I'm looking for something to put miles on. It'll be at the POCI convention, Norwalk, and the POSI run, Maybe a few others as well.

I'm hoping to have it running yet this week but work isn't cooperating as customer cars are rolling in on the hook in mutiples this week. I put an hr in tonight pulling the temp engine out of the 64 GTO and said **** it I'm beat.

Mike

I've got the itch to be driving one now.

Hey, Mike!

I've got a couple of projects going around the place and if things don't work out right in the near future, I may bring your last year's Norwalk show car's little brother to race this year. It's a '64 Le Mans I'm putting back together; and, if I can't get the body done in time, it may rival yours (without the patches).

I've got a couple of other options but that's the quickest (and dirtiest). It ran 11.80's and should be in that range when I get it back together.

If I don't bring something, I think Keith will probably shoot me, so that gives me a little more incentive.

Keith's got my permission to shoot you [as long as he fixes the hole afterwards!] if you show up again empty handed!

I look forward to seeing the PA version of a rat. Hopefully we have a drier year this time around! The "tent time" was good also last yr tho.
