Default 1969 T/A Conv. story

Wow...Just had the wifey and kids out for a Sunday drive. A fellow in my hometown who was out mowing his lawn waved me over. Said he had a good story for me. Well...I waited while he ran to get some pictures, wondering what the heck was up. He related to me the story of His 1969 Trans am 4spd. Convertible. Seems he bought it new in Edmonton off the showroom floor. Proceeded to drive it to work and back in Northern Alberta...lol...Said after losing a few mufflers etc. on the terrible roads back then, he returned to the dealership and traded it in on an 1/2 ton truck and a snowmobile! He said every few months he dreams about driving down the street and finding it parked in a driveway for sale....lol..I'm thinking it must have been a RAIVcar as he remembers the dealer telling him it was rated at 385 hp....but he remembers it must have been a conservative rating as he raced it against quite a few big hp cars and did quite well.

All 8 69 T/A converts were Ram Air III cars.

My guess is that if you wanted to track it down, it would be pretty easy since all eight are accounted for and restored. I'm sure there's a list somewhere.

Theres an original unrestored beautiful survivor right here where I live. The appraisal a couple of weeks ago made my jaw drop.

Well since there were only 8 made and all of them have been documented somewhere, I would start with this google search

http://www.google.com/#hl=en&q=1969+...e34627c46f57f4

I would contact the owners of the websites and see if they know who has actually documented these cars and knows their whereabouts. Im sure it would change based on the fact that they are all museum pieces and rarely driven and more than likely change hands based on the market. I don't really think it matters where the car was originally sold. If I was a collector in the U.S. and heard about one for sale in Canada.......

Most 69 T/A's were made at the same Norwood plant.

Maybe a call to PHS would be in order.

3 ta conv. went to Canada . 2 to Vancouver and 1 to Edmonton .None went to Toronto . Edmonton car is a 4 speed , blue top , tach and gauges std. interior, power top and m20 .Only the Edmonton car and the Buffalo 4 speed Ta conv.came with tach and gauges and they were both 4 speed blue top cars with the Buffalo car being custom int , wood shift knob and power top and being the best optioned out of the 8 , other 2 Canadian cars are autos. No comment about all 8 being documented. All 8 came from Norwood and there not all restored and if one is unrestored, mint and near you it must have gotten there recently .Yes , I know who owns the Canadian cars or did own them ,but they have been changing hands and I don't keep up with it like I used to so may have changed .One Vancouver car is a auto with blue top and in the southwest , the other auto Vancouver car is white top and was in Wash. up until a couple years ago and sold to ?Of the other ta conv.s automatics there is one with a black int , and sold to collector out west .The other auto car is in collectors hands in Chicago and came out of Micomb Mississippi . FYI. The blue cust. int. 4 speed car that was on the cover of car collector mag. back in the early 80's came out of Detroit area and came with amfm, pw and custom int and reportedly sold recently.
There is one white cust. int car - a 4 speed , one black std int car - a auto and others are all blue with 3 being custom int,of which 2 are 4 speeds .

Matt,

Do you still need to look at that note sheet, or are the verts committed to memory?

Robs got three 69 T/A's. Plus or minus the vert. If that car is unrestored than someone did a great job of doing it "correct" with overspray and all. I was lead to believe that it was untouched.

It is a very nice car and was rust free when I brought it back from New Orleans , and then took it to the POCI meet in Niagara Falls in June of 82
