Few tidbits:
-Air cleaner is correct for 4bbl non 428 (370 and 390 hp 428's used a single snorkel chrome lid assembly like a 69 Firebird 400 or a 68 GTO)
-While other 69 Pontiacs had the option of a rear defogger (blower) GP's had only the rear defroster (grid) as an option. You could not order a defogger from the factory on a 69 GP and you couldn't order a grid defroster on any 69 except a GP
-Like the 69 GTO, 69 GP's came with standard manual drum brakes and Power disc were optional. Manual disc was no longer optional on any 69 Pontiacs and power drums while optional on some other Pontiac's in 69 they were not optional on GP's
-manual shift GP's came standard with walnut shift knobs and 4spd models used a knob unique to the GP (different looking bezel similar to later Firebird knobs), I am not sure if the 3spd manual GP used the regular woodknob used on A and F bodies (with a large pontiac arrowhead and no shift pattern in the bezel) or had a unique GP version like the 4 speed.
Anybody know for sure? this is the first 3pd GP I ever saw, I'll try to look it up in my 1970 MPC.

Also I wonder if the car has the rear frame braces you see on manual trans 69 GTO's (except convertibles)?

There's a red 69 3 spd car that shows up at Norwalk every yr. It's a no console car IIRC and is unrestored.

Matt, That is a cool GP. When you want to add gauges 70-71 A-body's are the same. Here are some pics of a '69 GP with a hood tach.

I've seen a few of those pumps where the tack-welded return pipe at the housing was broken loose and caused a big leak. I have two spare original '69 pumps, if you need one let me know.

John,

The GP 3-speed knob was a walnut knob like you described, it has a red center with the Pontiac Arrowhead and read... Pontiac Motor Division around the perimeter. I'll attach a picture of one in another factory 3-speed car. By the way, this particular GP is the most basic GP I've ever seen... manual drum brakes, std hubcaps and radio delete. I cant see one option that would have been listed on the PHS invoice of this car... maybe a tinted windshield?

Good question... 4-speed GP's do have the braces, I'm sure the 3-speed cars do as well. By the way... the '69 428HO auto cars have them as well.

Keep in mind that the GP gauges use different housings with attached green lenses at the bulb socket holes which give it a unique green illumination while the A body gauges lite-up white.

Good to know!! Well, first things first...I need to patch some minor holes in the floors, thanks to vynil roof rot-out. Meanwhile I'll shift by ear (I have an ear for engines) and listen for lifter clatter.

Matt I had a 70 GP SJ set of Rally Gauges with Clock but sold it a while back. Sorry

Your harness will need to be changed to match anyway though. Just do under dash old school , its easier

Default leaky no moe

Sounds good, Larry. I have spare underdash gauge sets anyway.

Anyway, just a quick update- I eliminated the power steering leak. The OE pump's o-ring has an obvious compromise. I had a spare '69 P/S pump from a 50k mile Bonneville I parted out...impact wrenched the nut off the front (a locking nut, btw) and used a light duty gear puller to extract the pulley...swapped pulley then gets reattached by impacting the nut back on.

...oh and in true engine-ear fashion, I overfilled the power steering pump and found another big mess under the hood after I took it for a beat run. I guess some rolled up paper towels will be used to siphon out the excess.

Also snugged down the carb and replaced two missing intake bolts...seriously! The pass side rear two intake-to-head bolts were gone! Gee, not too much potential for a vacuum leak THERE, eh??

...We now return you to your regularly-scheduled forum...

I would have liked to have seen the Window sticker to that car as it's always been my understanding is that disc brake's where standard on G.P's in 69. My old 69 3spd G.P. is still running around in Illinois and that was a 2 option car coming out of California. one of the option's was tire size and the other we never did figure out,but was a $10.00 cost. The 2 cpmbined were $26.00 in total. The car was a White G.P. with a Blue Interior,AM radio, power sterring and brakes.3spd Manual open rear end and NO console. The window sticker on mine showed the power steering and power brakes to be standard options as well as the AM radio.

Yes, me too! I've heard that later in the production year disc brakes became standard on all '69 GP's. Some early '69s may have been shipped without disc brakes due to some confusion on the order form... see attached bulletins. Not sure about power steering though, every invoice I've seen shows power steering listed as an option. The $10.00 cost listed was most likely the advertising assistance charge for those dealers that participated in the program. Do you still have a copy of that window sticker? The console was standard on GP, with buckets of course. That's interesting... I've never seen a bucket car without one. I'm wondering if your car had a group package option ordered that gave it those options? It should have been listed either way.

74 SD455 Formula, see earlier post re: brakes. also, it's my understanding that floor shift '69 GPs came standard with a console. Your $10 option sounds like it may be the export option, like on mine.

...man I am sure glad to own this car. ...and to think that there were people who were telling the guy I got it from that I shouldn't have it.

Years ago I tried to buy a 69 stick Prix with a Bench seat floor shift. Only one I'd ever seen and supposedly not available.Car was Expresso Brown and had rally wheels. Very low option car.

Mike, do you remember if it was a 3 or 4-speed? Now that would be cool! I wouldn't be surprised if a few slipped through being ordered with a bench seat and no trans option checked off... just the standard equipment 3-speed on the floor.
