Those would go right along with the 1 finger lid I discovered in a Tempest after driving it through 5 states when purchased.

Water pump being packed up for a trip to the Flying Dutchman and A/C system to Classic Auto Air for refurb and 134A conversion. My pup's last day is Friday, so I'm likely to get pretty deep into this rig over the weekend --

See anything out of place or missing, let me know.

Is it possible to remove the A/C box without getting into inner fender removal or other pita procedures?

Anyone interested and willing to scrutinize originality or just want to check out the car, follow the build here: http://s558.photobucket.com/user/v-r-r/slideshow/70SJ

I wasn't really intending on this turning into a build thread. Trying to keep it down to just learning what's what with these cars. That said, here's a couple of inside the engine. 4x,xxx showing on the OD.

We shall see. I'll have the pistons out of the block sometime this weekend. Absolutely going with 2.5" long branches.

Kinda looks like only 40k miles versus 140k

How was wear on the brake pedal pad?

We're on the same page, Larry. I was thinking the same thing after I came in last night. Will report on the break pedal later.

What, if anything, should be on the left inner fender where indicated?

Windshield washer bottle? Assuming the other one is the radiator over flow?

I popped 6 bills for Ram Air Reproduction long branch manifolds. I think they'll work fairly well. Certainly much better than the original manifolds. I'm not impressed with the finish work and the packing for shipment was under par. I'm left with a sense that they don't take pride in their product. Overall, I wouldn't chastise the purchase, but I also wouldn't go out of my way to highly recommend them either. An okay manifold for performance gain and original look. Going to clean up the ports a bit, ceramic coat them and see what happens.

Thumbs up There was a vacuum storage tank installed in that spot originally

It was made of plastic and had a single vacuum hose attached, exiting horizontally and aiming at the engine. I think the mounting holes are about 3 1/2" or 4" apart.

The other end of the hose went to the 2nd nipple on the steel vacuum break/choke pull-off on the quadrajet. That's why the 1970 pull-offs have two nipples.

If I remember correctly, it was installed with two purposes. First was to slow the secondary opening slightly, as the vacuum in the storage tank would resist the secondaries opening until that vacuum bled off. Second would be that evaporated gasoline fumes would collect there and give you a slightly richer mixture right after starting and not bleed off into the atmosphere.

I'm also pretty sure that this was the non-California emissions system. California cars got the later-style vapor canister with several hoses attached. This canister was metal and had two or three larger (1/4" or 5/16") hoses attached.

I (hopefully) attached a small pic of the vacuum tank that would have been on your inner fender.

Oh, and to answer one of your earlier questions, I DO think you will need to remove the inner (and maybe outer) fender(s) to get the AC box off...... Sorry!

I don't suppose anyone has pictures of this setup?
