Default 1979 10th Anniversary Trans Am 4 speed Survivor $25,000

It's a 4-speed TATA with 28,716 miles.

Runs great. Distributor was recurved by Rocky Rotella, current carb (electric choke, not currently hooked up) was a Cliff Ruggles job and the original carb (not on car but included) was redone by Cliff as well. I've done all the fluids (trans, radiator, diff, and oil obviously), plugs, wires. I replaced the dead original power antenna with a unit rebuilt by TAC member Olds403. Radio and 8-track work but AM band doesn't seem to be able to tune to a station. Comes with original mirrored t-tops and leather t-top bags. Also includes compact spare, jack and inflator bottle. Just put in a new battery last fall as the old one died due to the car sitting for quite a while between drives.

The shaker is cut open. The original exhaust was replaced with a true-dual setup with Flowmaster mufflers with dual high-flow catalytic converters to pass emissions. I added the cats, the rest of the setup was in place when I got the car. I replaced the fan clutch with a new unit as the car was originally running hot. Turned out to be that the radiator was pretty gunked up but I flushed it. With the clean radiator and new fan clutch the car no longer runs hot.

AC blows cold but the air only trickles out the top vents. The defroster works so I know it's not a vacuum issue. Since only the AC vents don't work too well, my guess is that the AC duct work might be leaking somewhere in the dash.

The only other issue I know of is that the parking brake cable needs to be adjusted as it won't hold the car on an incline.

The paint has some issues that are highlighted in the pics below. The pics are from last summer but the car looks the same. If somebody is interested that can't come and see the car in person, I can take some new pics and/or video, but it'll look the same as it does in these pics

NADA says avg retail is $32,670. I'm asking $25,000.

Pics can be seen here.

If you're interested in coming to see the car or have any questions about it, PM me or shoot me an email at zabolots@yahoo.com

Just looking for some feedback. Are the 10th cars no longer desirable or is it just mine?

I am in the same boat with you Scott. 10th An 44,000 miles all original and no one even looking...most are selling theirs to move on to something else or to pay some bills. The economy sucks; all musclecars have taken a hit. It appears now that many 10th cars were stored and thus the survival rate among the 7500 units is very high. Many are still around so if anyone is in the market they can wait for the ultra low mileage deal...leaving you, I and other 10th owners with nice cars that do not even get a second glance. Enjoy it or possibly fire sale it for about $15K. Neat car best of luck.

Like Jim said my guess is it's the economy, and the muscle car market has taken a big hit. I've got a TATA as well with around 14,000 miles, though I'm not sure I'd ever sell it, I had it since I was 16 too many great memories attached to it! Good luck with your sale, it's a great looking car, just enjoy it in the mean time.

Reading this prompted me to check ebay.. There were several TATA's there, one With 5000 miles on it was at $25,000, and another with 50,000+ mile was at $18,500.

Maybe you should list it there? Again good luck

Default Car pricing

You should list it on eBay with say a 25K reserve. And see what the market is willing to pay. If the top bidder comes close. You can always contact them after the auction is over.

It will cost you for listing. But if it doesnt sell. You wont have to give eBay a cut.

Scott

p.s. If anybody has any ideas on how to edit the thread title to reflect the new price please let me know. I can't seem to figure it out.

I think more folks have leaned toward the other 4 speed cars, especially the Y84 special edition t/a-6.6.
If there's an original, low mileage survivor, one could bet that it will sell faster and for a bit more money than a TATA.
Folks like those "smokey" cars, plus the fact that they are very limited in production.

Just for comparisons. The mileage is a bit higher and I think this guy might be asking just a bit much too. Probably a $12k car if it's super nice.

Nope.Trying to avoid Ebay. Even though that's how I bought it, I'd rather deal with a sale to a member of a smaller community. Having never sold a used car before, I'm reluctant for my first to be via Ebay.

maybe I'm just paranoid...

No,you're not,you must be vigilant when selling on Epay.
You have a nice car, desirable, but market is low,not you or your cars fault. If you can hold out till the economy picks up...maybe the "messiah" in the white house can fix everything

Default 1979 TATA...4-speed

Scott,

Not sure if you still have the car. I own an original survivor, 8,500 mile TATA, 4-speed. I am 3rd owner. Frankly, the market has impacted the collector car values. That said, some 79 TATAs sold this year (2011) for $50k, $31k, $85k (6.7 mile 4-speed). Another sold out of MD in the $30k range.

Also, recent Mecum-Dallas auction, Jim Mattison (PHS) sold his 79 TA, 4-speed for $30k.

I have mine up for sale, asking $35k OBO. Bottom line, the TATA, 4-speed is a $30k value, period.

Default 1979 TATA-4-speed market values

I do not claim to be an expert. However, based on my research, the '79' TATAs with
L78, W72, WS6 codes, low mileage, original, documented are selling in the low $30k range. Clearly, the uncertain economy has impacted most everything in our lives, including the collector car market. That said, recent Mecum auction results continue to support the collector car enthusiast market is still alive and well, and asking/selling prices have throttled back to a level that allows many to participate. We all know, PMD is gone, Firebird is gone. IMO.....Original, low mileage TAs will continue to maintain reasonable value levels, and improve along with an improved economy and consumer confidence. Yes, a waiting game. God knows, I am not the most patient guy...!
