Arrow 1979 4spd Formula For Sale - 43,000 Original Miles!

Unfortunately I can't keep them all and I had already committed to another car before this one got delivered....so it's for sale.

1979 W50 Special Appearance Package, WS6 Special Performance Package, 4spd Formula Firebird with 43,337 miles on it currently (subject to change ), L37 4.9 Litre, 4bbl engine, Limited Slip Differential, 4-Wheel Disc Brakes, Custom Color Keyed Seatbelts, Rear Defroster, IP Tachometer & Gauges, Soft Ray Glass - All Windows, Additional Acoustical Insulation, Lamp Group, Front & Rear Floor Mats, Roof Drip Molding, Power Antenna, Power Door Locks, Radio Accommodation Package (Has Dealer Installed Pioneer 8-Track), Tilt Steering Wheel, Controlled Cycle Windshield Wipers, Custom Velour Interior Trim in Camel Tan Hobnail with Lombard Bolsters.

Other than the tires, I don't believe this car has had anything changed since new. The interior is immaculate, everything works as it should including the lights & key buzzer. The car has NEVER been smoked in and the dash, headliner, rear package tray, glass, instrument panel, carpet, console, seats & door panels are all in EXCELLENT condition. The exhaust is original including the catalytic converter and transverse mounted muffler. The floors are rust free as is every other panel on the car. The paint is 100% GM Original - there are factory defects in the paint, including dirt, hairs, drips/runs/pools & some metal flake droops. Space saver spare, inflator, jack & instructions are all in the trunk & show no signs of ever being used. There is also an additional matching single rim included should you choose to have a full size spare.

Defects: It leaks a little oil - it wouldn't be a Pontiac if it didn't! There are a few small chips in the paint if you walk around the car as well as a couple very minor door dings in the front fender - to be expected. On the interior the front seat backs have a couple of scratches and there is some minor discoloration in the two rear side panels - I would replace them to make it perfect. The front & rear windshield trim has lost it's original black paint and now has a brushed look to it except for the two rear side pieces which somehow retained their paint. This was a common problem back in the day - you can choose to refinish them or strip the two remaining pieces to match the roof drip moldings.

The car is an absolute blast to drive, very torquey, and will burn 1st, spin 2nd & grab third without much effort. It handles great, and is super comfortable inside with all temp/climate controls working properly (had the heat on with both windows down this morning @ 6:30 on the highway). It drives great in the heat (had it out on CT's record breaking 103 degree day), and starts every time you turn the key - it also has a nice little shake when idling at stop lights.

I have a clear Idaho title from the 2nd owner along with a notarized open bill of sale. I also have the warranty book from the first owner who took delivery with 4 miles on the car and they both lived in the same town it was sold new in.

Price is $12,900 which is reflective of the issues which you may/may not choose to address and my choice to sell the car quickly. The cars condition and patina (I hate that word) could not be duplicated at anything close to that price. I will be trailering the car out to Norwalk and may race it just for fun. Bring cash or arrange a wire transfer ahead of time & drive it home!

Wow! Someone took impeccable car of that car. Very rare find in that condition.

You mentioning how much power it has reminded me, somewhere there's a thread talking about the 4.9 cars getting different gear ratios in the tranny that were real performance oriented.

Cool car Boss, good luck with the sale.

The 4spd/301 combo got the Borg Warner Super T-10 with a 3:44 1st gear and the same combo with the WS6 & no A/C got the 3:08 rear - it pulls pretty good.

Production on 1979 4spd/301 Formulas was 1590 with solid roof & 1530 with T-Tops - fairly low considering over 211,000 Firebirds were produced in 1979.

Thanks Joe & John. John, I need to give you a call tomorrow about picking up the hood - I'm also going to be bringing back the one for Art too.

This car reminds me of the 7K mile '79 TA I bought from Mr Glasgo but with fewer options. I miss that car and would like to have yours Chris.......take original sticker for it?

If you end up running it, let us know how it does. I'm curious, maybe high 15's? Probably quicker than a loaded up 403 t/a auto of the same year.

Thanks guys, I think I'll run it - going to rubber band my Droid to the rear view and take a video too!

Chris - as nice as that offer is, I've got more in it.

Had a blistering first run of 17.22 backed up by an equally fast 17.25.....painfully slow.

There was a traction problem in both 1st & 2nd - the video will back me up.

It has not sold yet, probably wait a few more days then throw it on e-bay.

Did a little photo shoot out in Norwalk with that ever elusive SD/4spd Formula.

Great comments here guys! We TAC'ers would love the story of the blistering 17 sec run.

Very clean car. Best of luck with your sale.
