Default 1971 T-41 Endura Convertible Bites the Dust

Sad.....1971 Endura T41 optioned Lemans Sport Convertible severly damaged. This happened in 1984. Not for sure since the picture caption does not specifically say, but based on his previous driving record I am assuming the former Senator was driving.

The caption on the pic is funny.
The part where they say "unidentified wrecking yard workers examine the car"...... probably originally said "family saves case of booze from wrecked car"

Cool pic and story, John!

As a side note - you'd think a Kennedy could have afforded some front tires - check out those "maypops"!

Say John - on second glance, excepting the passenger side park lamp, that looks like a '72 T41 LeMans to me . . . I spy a fender vent and those definitely look like '72 grilles.

Hard to tell, but I think those may be front fender louvers (gills) that came on Lemans Sport models in 1971.

Teddy always had a Pontiac Convertible to cruise the Cape in. I saw him multiple times in a 68 LeMans Sport convertible. I don't recall ever seeing the T-41.

Checked again and I'm pretty sure that those '72 fenders. Definitely '72 grills . . .

the '71 grills in a LeMans were eggcrate similar to '72 grills [only not recessed] and did NOT utilize the same mesh as the GTO's...and the park lamps had the "bombsight" bezels in '72. Just sayin'. Ron

OK guys, now I'm leaning back towards the '71 side, LOL!

If only that photographer had been just another foot to his right . . .

It's a 72, here he is in it...

Of course his Oldsmobile was a little more famous (or infamous)....

That's quite a nice looking T41 'vert, Chris. Thanks for posting!

Wish we could make out the rocker panel CID callout . . .

Gee - did ol' Teddy bot need a LeMans 'vert, or a 3/4 ton pickup?

I'm not sure on that one. Wrecked one looks like a 71 (no crosshair lights) grill, whitewalls, and side molding...That 72 looks the replacement car.

He looks older in that picture too than he would in 1983ish....

Thanks for this link. My wealth redistributing MIL from CT would be giddy to to know she could be sleeping over nearly the same car a Kennedy drove. All she has to do is renounce her current love of snake oil. This is a low risk bet.

In the one picture, Teddy looks like he was was behind the 4H goat farmers in the Labor Day parade and is about to lean out his door to heave. On second thought he also looks a little like a guy who just got kicked out of the house and loaded everything he could carry in his car. This is a classic.

The wrecked T-41 appears to have body side moldings and white walls.

Chris, what color is that car Teddy is sitting in? Is it a dark blue with Sienna interior?

Sure looks like Atoll Blue but I don't see a dark blue being available in 72 for a le-mans / GTO although Cumberland Blue was a 72 Pontiac dark blue color...saddle interior was the darkest color in 72.

It's not my picture, I never saw him in that car - saw him in the 68 quite a bit.

No - he's been stuck on "Damn!" too long after looking at all those black Judges. After you look at Black that long, it makes Blue look Green.

Mark- I agree the wreck is a 71.
