Default Brasilia gold Lemans pics

Here are some in-progress pics of my 72 Lemans. The car is Brasilia (Brazilia?) gold, with a sandalwood top and sandalwood interior. I bought the car in 95, wrecked it in 96, and got it painted last year. I should put some miles on it this year, even if it is without a full interior.

I forgot how much the car lights up in the sun, it looks brown in the shade and gold in the sun. Personally, I don't like the color without a vinyl top, but we all have opinions.

I will post some updated pics when I get it out of the garage this week. The front end is on it now, it looks like a car. Woo Hoo!

Mike,

Thanks for posting these pictures. Your car looks awesome. Do you know what brand paint and what the paint code they used?

Keep us updated on your build.

They used PPG products, Concept 2042 clear. This stuff is stupid expensive, but I have to trust that it is the best out there. The paint was mixed to code 57. When I get the paint can back, I will check what formula number it is.

not expensive by todays standard..not the best either...run of the mill high production paint..still good stuff.....try some Sikkens...it'll double the price...

all paint is expensive any more...i remember when you could paint a car for $300 in materials..now its $2500+

i just drug a 70 lemans in that color...no top..still shiney original paint..i kinda like it...

That is the original colour for my 72 Goat. Mine didn't have a vinyl roof (57/57).

Did you consider having your painter throw more 'flecks' into the mix? That is what I have been considering - trying to have it 'pop' a little more (with some gold/black, and other sparkly colours added). Maybe Mark can chime in on this.

Thanks for the pics!

How much different is this color from Castillian Bronze?

Isn't this Castillian Bronze (more of a reddish tone) http://www.gtoalley.com/71gtof.html or http://ultimategto.com/cgi-bin/showc...971/71_00146_8?

Brian,
I didn't want to come up with a custom paint color (more mettalic or something different). For some reason, this car just works for me. I dated my wife in it, so it is special for that reason too. I could have painted it any color I wanted (we did the entire car), but the colors fit the type of car that it is. If the car was a GTO, maybe I would have went with a bolder color.

Thanks for the compliments.

Mike

I think Brisilia Gold is a great color!! I agree that adding some gold pearl/flecks will make it pop. I also like the sandalwood vinyl top to contrast the dark color. Nice Car!! Same color and interior as GTO that was for sale a while back. I wish I had the money for that one.

My pleasure, I can't argue with your reasons for keeping it 'as is' 8^)

Thanks Steve, yes I will keep folks up to date on my 'Brasilia Gold paint adventure'.

Still working to get the motor re-wired up (i.e. running), and the front-end re-hung (gaps set). Then it is on to metal/body-work, prior to paint (includes putting two new quarters on). I should have blown it apart again, but don't have the room (will partially blow apart prior to paint) - front & rear glass and all trim will be off.

BR/Brian.

nice paint. i like the light interior nad vinyl top. a little contrast. Brasilia Gold is not that well known of a color, had some old timers comment at a cruise "that must be a Macco special off the shelf color" but the PHS proved them wrong. This color has grown on me.
Keep up the good work.

Default Update on progress

Today I got the door handles, side moldings, and other little details done. I got it out of the garage and took it for a first ride today (just a mile or so). Wow, 3" exhaust + no windows + no interior = loud car.

Woo Hoo!

I used a ram air restorations exhaust, 3" x-pipe and 2-1/2" tails. I used trans am style splitters, held on with a band clamp. I welded a rod on the top of the exhaust and went with a standard rubber isolation mount on the frame. I don't have any miles on the car to figure out if this is a secure setup or not.

I threw a tape measure under the car for one pic, lined up at 2" on the rear valance tab.
