It was surprising to me that at the GM Canada site there was no mention of the new GTO, so I decided to write them to ask why. Here is the responce...

quote:
Due to variables in safety and emission standards of the United States and
Canada, the Pontiac GTO will not be available on the Canadian market.

Just the more for us
Even with the love it/hate it situation with the new GTO, it sucks that someone who wants one can't get it.
Can you buy it in the US and drive it over???

Naw can't buy it and drive it across. It will have to be modified to meet all emission and safety requirements. Isn't bad on some cars cause it's just a matter of hooking up daytime running lights but when it comes to emissions and the rest of the safety stuff it becomes cost prohibited.

Too bad. We don't have access to another jellybean car. Fast or not. That's all it is.

i think canada will eventually get it..
it wasn't cost effective to make it comply will 5mph bumper regs for the small amount of cars produced.

interesting point of view from an aussie i was talking to -
"can you imagine if instead of Holden recreating the Monaro, they imported a good American car here and called it Monaro, I think I'd have to go on a hunger strike or somthing if that happened. Should have been the Pontiac Monaro (or something else that isn't GTO) IMHO."

Yeah, real interesting point of view...
Thanks for posting the GMinsider pix.
I like the Rally II-esque wheels, and I like the side exhaust and new front end.
For all the rest of you, there is a company (I think it's called Arrowhead Performance) that is going to produce body kits for the GTO. They'll be similar to the above pix.

just goes to show there are extreme beliefs on both sides of the fence ... for example some holden fans don't want the styling of the CTS for the next commodore, even though its a great car.

I suppose the styling might grow on me...but I have to say I don't like the CTS all that much. The new shape Aussie Commodore is a bit more angular in its design than the popular previous model. I didn't like it much at first...but as I see more of them on the road they're growing on me.
Familiarity must bring about an appreciation...or at least acceptance...of unusual/cutting edge designs.

Don't stereotype, "we" is too broad a term!
The CTS, ok, the CTSV, probably one of the best products I've seen from the General.
