How do they not match up?

Holes smaller vs heads? Some Holes Missing?

More Info Please.

I have used FelPro 1016s with my KRE D-Ports in two builds. Direct fit and never a problem.

I will post pics shortly, the gaskets do not have a few coolant holes that the heads have.

Did KRE know when you ordered these Heads that they where going on a 389 or 421 motor, if so they may have drilled the extra old style cooling holes in the deck.

Butler makes gaskets specific for the valve angles! If you use the KREs you will need the 400-428-455 gaskets even if on a 389-421 block.Tom

I dd not specifically ask for anything, the application is a 455 short block, from the pics you can see that between cylinders 1 and 3 there are 2 cooling holes and 1 bolt hole in the heads whereas the gaskets have 1 cooling hole and 1 bolt hole. Not sure if this is an issue but i would imagine it could be?

Pontiac Engineers and Other cooling people figured out that you do not bleed off VALUABLE cooling water if you close off a couple of the cooling holes closer to the water pump in the head surface as this makes the water go deeper into the block and then flow back farther to the water cross-over removing more heat for the same water volume.

Nothing wrong with the gaskets you have if you install them correctly. The gasket people and Butler put the holes where they did for a reason.

That's for a added Head bolt on aftermarket blocks.

I thought it would be ok but needed to ask before i installed also sorry for the misunderstanding but the same issue exists in between cylinders 5 and 7, i used cylinders 1 and 3 as an illustration.

Are both gaskets identical?

So you are saying that you have (call it 30%) of the holes that a typical head gasket would have. Holes only being in the center of the block on both heads? If so I would give the Butlers a call as you bought the gaskets from them and maybe you have a couple of miss-machined gaskets or he can replace with Felpro 1016 gaskets on his dime.
