Performance Years July 2012
2012 SUMMER EVENTS

Performance Years had a great Spring show season. The weather was cooperative, customers were as great as always and we truly enjoy going to different parts of the country to see many of you. There are a number of exciting events coming up in the next few weeks. We hope lots of you stop by and visit with us at these events.

2012 POCI NATIONAL CONVENSION - July 17-21
St. Charles, IL

The Pontiac-Oakland Club International has chosen St. Charles, IL to host their 40th annual convention. This year they will be celebrating the 75th anniversary for 1937 Pontiacs and GMCs, the 50th anniversary for 1962 Pontiacs and GMCs, the GTO Uprising and 45-years of the Pontiac Firebird. This event will be packed with things to do and Pontiacs to see. We do NOT advise missing it.
SYRACUSE NATIONALS - July 20-22
NY State Fairgrounds; Syracuse, NY

While half of our show staff is at the POCI convention in IL, the remainder are headed to NY for the Syracuse Nationals. This show is an annual "can't miss" for all car lovin' New Englanders and friendly neighbors, North of the border.
2012 NORWALK PONTIAC NATIONALS - August 3-5
Summit Motorsports Park; Norwalk, OH

It is nearly time for Norwalk again!! We hope you are as excited as we are for this unique event. All Pontiac, all weekend. What more can you ask for. Except maybe a killer Friday night BBQ hosted by your pals at PY. Once again, our BBQ will include food, Pontiacs, food, "special" drinks and food.

Wild About Cars: Your GTO came in to the dealership three days later?
Carl Papke: The red car came in three days after I bought the one I settled for. I wasn't pleased. A guy from Kingston, named Arnold Growe, bought the car. We drag raced on M-46 west of Kingston that night, and he blew my shorts off! It had a 3.90 rear end in it. It had tri-power. It had the close ratio four-speed, and it was a hauler. It didn't last long. He blew that motor up within seven days of the day he took delivery on the car. He blew it up a half a mile south of M-46 on M-53. He got out and was hitchhiking into town about five miles away.

By the time he went to the dealer and came back with the wrecker, two guys was stealing the tri-power off of that car. They had it all but two bolts, and when the wrecker pulled up they jumped in their pick-up and split. They didn't get it [the tri-power], but they almost had it.

WAC: This is in rural America, 1965.
CP: Right here in Marlette, Michigan, and it was happening then. If you wanted to lose your four-speed transmission, park it in a lot and go to work. It was almost guaranteed that it was gone. I never had anything stolen off any of my cars around here. I never had any problems. Maybe that was because... CLICK HERE FOR THE FULL ARTICLE

2012 PERFORMANCE YEARS OPENHOUSE
Holy Toledo, Batman!! Look at all the Pontiacs!!

Panoramic view of the Pontiac show field (taken on Saturday at 12:30pm)

Performance Years & Pypes Exhaust hosted their 2nd annual Openhouse Event on June 15-17 and you wouldn't believe the turnout. The weather was beautiful (maybe a little toasty) and the Pontiacs and musclecars were everywhere.

The openhouse was officially kicked off on Friday with a cruise and cruise-in. Lots of great cars showed up and cruised Lansdale's Main Street and enjoyed a free BBQ at the PY and Pypes headquarters. It turned out to be a casual way to meet lots of great people and check out lots of great cars. But Friday's surprise hit was the Pypes muffler box domino rally. The Pypes employees setup several pallets of boxed Pypes mufflers in a domino-style course. At about 5:00pm, the first box was tipped and the expected chain reaction caused all of the remaining muffler boxes to fall along the planned course. It was very impressive and lots of fun to watch.

Saturday was the main event with 3 car shows drawing people in. It was obvious from the pre-registrations that 2012's show was going to be bigger than last year, but the turn out was double what was anticipated. By the time registrations closed at noon, there were 238 Pontiacs and 127 other musclecars registered. But more cars continued to roll in all afternoon. The final total of cars in attendance may not be known but this event is now obviously among the largest car shows in the North East.

Along with the staggering number (and variety) of cars to check out, photograph and talk about, there was lots of other things to do on Saturday. Tours to take, food to eat, merchandise to browse, bands to listen to, games to play and other fun to be had. It was a great day to be a car lover (as long as you remembered your sunblock).

On Sunday, the event moved to Maple Grove Raceway for an all Pontiac day at the track. Just like at any race; thrills, excitement and upsets were abound. Racing fans got a full day of Pontiac racing and a great show & shine to finish out their weekend.

Performance Years and Pypes Exhaust hope that everyone who attended all or part of the 2012 Openhouse event had a great time. Anyone who didn't make this year's event should now see the folly of their decision and be making plans to attend 2013's Openhouse. The goal is always to make each year bigger and better than the last. Mark your calendars to spend June 14-16, 2013 in Hatfield, PA with PY, Pypes and hundreds of Pontiac and musclecar lovin' friends. You won't be disappointed.

NEW FIREBIRD & TRANS AM CATALOG

In 2011, our GTO, Tempest & Lemans customers raved about the update we gave our 1964-74 GTO, Tempest & Lemans catalog. We increased the number of pages by 25% so we could fit more parts, more product pictures and more descriptions. The result was a 200 page catalog featuring 5700+ products, 3000+ pictures and more Pontiac awesomeness than you can shake a stick at!!

On the heals of that success, we are giving our 1967-81 Firebird and Trans Am catalog the same treatment. There will be more pages so that we can fit more parts, more pictures, more descriptions... more everything!! Products are being re-organized to make them more intuitive to browse. And of course, we're giving it a new cover.

The PDF of this new catalog should be available in August and printed copies should be available in September. Keep your eyes peeled to the PY Forums for further details.
