I could never tell if they were really Ivory ... or yellowed by age, wax, etc.

Anyone ever researched the part numbers? If there were any different colors they would show up there for sure. A long shot ... but even if there was only one color it might put a name to it.

Thats funny, But in fairness I Didn't ask the question very well. I basically asked the question twice.

I was wondering more about the shade of cameo ivory itself. Seeing the list calls the decals cameo ivory, I was still wondering if the originals where more of an off white, rather than stark white like the one I have. I really like the black decals on your car & have been thinking about doing that too. I ended up putting Goodyear polyglass RWL tires on it, so at least the white would match those

Going to bed soon, or just getting up? I thought getting up by 5:00am was pretty early.

Verdoro 68 posted this on one of the first pages they are also calling the black decals the body color starlight black. So maybe they are just black & white & GM just used the paint colors when they where nothing more than black & white? I was just thinking that an off white decal would look better than stark white.

Off white does look better ... at least it did on my Verdora Green and Parchment top.

And by off white, I mean whatever color they originally were after eight years on the road, which is when I got my 68. My opinion on original colors is often skewed by the fact I got my GTO when it was eight years old ... so that's kind of how I remember "new"

I was still up at 5:00am ... I work nights, so even on my nights off I tend to be up very late.

Could you guys tell me the dimensions of your GTO decals?

Height X Width of the letters & overall length of the Decal.

In an ironic twist, the Decals I have been staring on the shelf the last 15+ years appear to be spaced incorrectly. These measure as follows:

letters are 1" high X 1-7/8" wide. overall size is 1" X 8"

Mine Looks tooooo Long to me. Or, the letters are too small?

Wow, much taller & wider letters than mine! wasn't expecting that. Were did you get yours, do you recall?

Thanks for checking!

Me? Remember?...lol
I know it was either Ames or PY...not any of the others. The size appears correct to my eye.
Ok, we need an original.

I refuse to let this thread die!

I was hoping I could separate the letters on the decals I have & use them, but they are only 1" tall & 2" wide.
I am sure I bought them from Ames, or the other half of the company in the early 2000's Can;t remember the name....

At any rate, not a big deal to order another pair. Even more tempting to order black. In fact, I'll probably order both colors this time.....

That's how I wound up with an extra pair of white.
There are definitely some 'wrong' ones out there. I met a guy with a '68 that had been restored before he bought it. The G T O letters on his quarter were the largest I'd ever seen. Really looked strange. They were at least 2-1/2" tall and overall decal must've been 10-1/2" at least.

How about these? any chance they are cameo Ivory? Guessing not?

Size would appear to be correct anyway.

Yeah, that kinda validates the repops. I'd be a little concerned with deterioration though?

Thought about that. Not sure when they went out of production, but I do remember you could buy GM ones from Ames a while back, so I was thinking either they made them well into the 90's or later, or maybe stored correctly they would hold up? Either way, these I listed above sold a few hours after my post so its mute point, but I do like that the seller put the dimensions in such detail.

Now here's some NOS ones that look a little sketchy......

Those appear to be the off-white cameo ivory color your looking for 👍

Sweet, nice looking set. I'm betting there are a lot of them tucked away in various cubby holes.

They arrived yesterday. Packages are definitely vintage. Envelope glue has let go & tape marks look very old. Not the Big question is, How good is the adhesive on the decals? No doubt its going to be deteriorated, but the halves separate like they should so we will see. Going to heat up the quarter & decals & hope for the best.

Interesting piece of history if nothing else.

Here are a few more picts....

I’ve used 69 NOS ram air decals a few times, they were in similar looking condition in their front and rear wrapping sheets but no problem with the adhesive backing. The rear paper came off fine. The only issue was the front sheet, it left some goop on the installed lettering and body but it cleaned up perfectly with a little rubbing alcohol.

These are the last parts to go on my car & then its officially done after 18 years......

I have tried to use everything original that I could & with a few exceptions I have struggled big time with almost all reproduced parts. Mostly because I was just fussy I suppose. Too high of expectations & most repop stuff is similar, but almost none are actually the same.

It feels good to know I will finish it off with another GM part made in the USA, even if it is just decals.
