Default dash insert

my woodgrain dash insert on the passenger side has cracked and split im looking at replacing this but cant figure out how to remove the old one. Does the whole dash have to come out or can it be removed with the dash still in the car.

The 69 is the same as my 70, except the 70 has metal model plaques. Be careful not to crack the dash! It is better after the car sits in the sun and the dash gets hot and more pliable. The insert fits into that "envelope" in the dash. Try to gently move it to the left or right so you can gently pry it out. Once you get it started it comes out fairly easily. The dash has some elasticity to it. Just take it slow and don't over do it.
