Moving along! I had the doors, fenders, door jambs, trunk channel and rockers hit with dustless blasting today.

Default Blasting

Only the inside/backside edge were shot on fenders. All around doors except door skins. Underside of trunk lid, around opening of trunk and in the channel, and jamb/hinges. Hopefully this saved some hours in body work.

What's the scoop on the process ... did they come to your place and do it? Cost? Clean up?

I've got a few areas I would love done, I have the body on a caddy I can roll outside.

Were you happy with the work and the cost?

We set up the doors, fenders, trunk lid on wooden stands outside the garage to blast. It’s the dustless machine. The surface comes out really nice in seconds. After doing those parts we rolled the body out of the garage and blocked off the door opening so he’d just shoot the door jambs and hinge area without the glass going into the car.
It melts the paint and primer off quickly and takes a little longer on bondo.
None of the outside of panels were shot except two spots on the outside of the fenders where there was a decent amount of bondo to remove. He shot the wheel well lips where the moldings mount to clean it up
He charged $360 to do what I’ve mentioned .

My car is being done at a residential home. The dust didn’t go everywhere like we figured but it was done over grass.

That's a solid car. The steering wheel got my attention. Hard to find those in that condition. Is it restored or original?

I need firewall done, door jams, trunk channel ..etc. Much like the job you had done. Body is completely stripped and can be rolled into the driveway .... might have to follow your lead on this one. That $360 would have saved me many, many hours of labor.

It is unrestored. I think it’s because the car was stored indoors from 1972-2017 that it stayed in nice condition.

That’s what I was thinking. Those areas that are typically meticulous and tight sanding spots take lots of time. This dustless process really leaves a nice, smooth surface to work with.

My floors and trunk have no rust issues so I left those alone.

I have the original red manual console but I kept the console, dash pad and seats at home.

I’ll get over there later this week and take pics. I probably should have pulled those too.

Those are sweet colored belts. I think they still look great.

Amazing condition car & parts!

Interesting seeing the inside of the council. my original has a white semi transparent plastic inner structure.
Pontiac MI build. Maybe more than one supplier?

Rear seatbelts are a tough deal, almost always shoved under the seats to sit & degrade over time.

Thank you.

I’m looking forward to seeing it back together.

I’m wondering if the red is the same red for rubber, plastic and vinyl in the car because this 8 track rubber piece is pretty faded.

I'd be tempted to just soak that thing in ArmorAll or similar and see how it turns out. That car is too nice and original to do much serious covering up of originality.

That’s what I was thinking too but since I was getting new paint I considered brightening up some sun fading on interior. I don’t have the plastic sleeve piece that goes around the outside of that 8 track though.
I left the motor alone except for new valve covers and chrome lid. The motor is really faded other than it looks like the water pump got replaced at some point. It does have a leak-probably rear main. I may look at repairing that since fenders are off.

thank you for the rear seat belt positions and the stacking configuration ....

nice original car ... I like seeing/looking original detailed cars over a restored ones usually ... mostly the interiors and engines..

even if there is discoloring ... age patina etc ..... survivor stuff is cooool to see and look at ....
