Default Verify starlight black formula

I’ve already had my steel wheels painted black but I feel it was a best guess on color. I told paint store it was color A and they did some hunting to conclude it was basically same black as Tuxedo or Raven for Camaro and Mustang. Well I painted wheels that formula.

Now that it’s the cars turn I just want to verify that is the case. They just said it was jet black.

Anybody?

I'm pretty sure tuxedo black is same as starlight.

I’d like to find a formula with a common brand to have mixed up if possible.
If not then I’ll just go with what I did for wheels in jet black.

The PPG formula for starlight black is 9300. Their purest, blackest black is 9700. I would go with a single stage, solid black (not metallic). Not a fan of the 'mop and glo' 'glazed ham' finish of base/clear on these classic cars....it just looks wrong.

I think it's for single, but you will have to do some digging.

I will need to look up the paint code used on my 68 Starlight Black GTO..

My 68 A-A Starlight Black got single-stage repaint and the fella told me it is a true black, an industry black for Chrysler, Ford, GM etc. He chose a formula that he insisted would remain high-gloss. So after 13+ years it is still high-gloss and a true black.

Was the 9700 called "ultra black"? That rings a bell to me. I painted my 69 vert one of those two colors but I've since sold the car and the receipts went with it so I can't confirm which one I used. I agree with what geeteeohguy said, non metallic black looks sooo much better as single stage, not bc/cc

I feel like 9700 is the one I was leaning on. I might just take my extra paint down to the paint store from wheels getting painted. Have them cross reference it to see if I had it right on those.
I’d be totally fin with tuxedo or raven black.

Ok, I just called my paint guy...still selling paint after all these years. He sold me PPG 9300 back then. It was referred to as "triple black" back in the day. It is still available. He says 9700 is only in bc/cc DBU. Again, I recommend single stage, so I would go with PPG Concept 9300.

The paint store where my painter gets his paint carries General and Valspar. I can’t find a cross reference number for those brands. My painter wants to keep the paint brands same he’s using for primers.

I called Napa paint store and they’re telling me Martin Senour code 8800, which is just classic black.
