Default Vin number

I had to replace my old dash and removed my Vin # tag and now i'm going to reinstall it. Does the Vin# tag get painted the same color as the rest of the dash?

I always assumed they were black. Mine is black inset into a black dash.

Fremont plant A-bodys, at least in '71, were dusted same 0 degree gloss color as metal dash.
Pontiac MI plant from what I've seen on '71's & 72 A-bodys were original black stamped steel piece. Will ck a sealed up Lakewood built partscar later tomorrow.

Blue, Sandalwood, Sienna, Saddle, Jade Green. Each was a 71 interior color, one of my longtime keeper cars & a bunch of previously owned 71 Fremont builds all had such zero gloss painted VIN plates.

'71 T-37's were not supposed have the matching color keyed plastic frame around the VIN, but a few were misbuilt with this small piece.
