Default Rear Window Molding Options

I had purchased a rear window molding kit like 22 years ago, and just pulled it out for inspection. Found the one long piece is actually bent.

Looking at the repops available from Ames, it states 'poor quality, use as last resort'.

What options are available for rear window moldings?

I’ve been using the repo the last ten years and I really like it. I’ve never had a problem with the fit. I can’t remember the company that makes it but I did buy it from Ames.

When was the last time you bought a set? I didn't notice the comment in earlier versions of their' catalog.

I just installed a set on a 73 last month. The pieces actually fit really well.

The long piece that goes along the top of the window had a slight bow in it to fit inside the box, but I simply straightened it out by hand and it was fine.

Another thing that works. The later 75-81 top piece can have the ends cut off and works on the 70-74.

Not sure that helps, since you have to spend $150 on a set just to get the top piece.

Probable two years ago. I’ve used 10 plus sets of these with no issues.

I found NOS. Or you could fine NICE used for the later rear window. They made a zillion of the later cars.

I’ve also used the repop, they are fine. Question when you say “kit” what do you mean by that? GM were not sold as a kit as each of the five pcs had their own part number.

I'll see what I have. I sold the car last month, but I might have a good pic of the trim.

Realize they use to be sold as individual pieces, though now, the reproduction ones are sold as a set of all 5. I wish I could just get the one piece I have that is damaged, that would make it much easier for me.

Guess I shouldn't be worried about the comment in the repops in the catalog then, but glad I asked! Thanks much gang!

I bought corvex brand, and It was horrible. So bad in fact I shelled out for NOS. The NOS fit perfect, and doesn’t dent with thumb pressure putting it on.

Not sure what other brands are out there. Might be interesting to compare.

I have no clue what NOS costs, but I suspect it's not within my budget!

Which bulkhead ports for heat/AC is that?

If you can find them, they are stupid expensive. I bought pieces one at a time over a couple years. Lots of asking people. Got my last pieces from Steve Ames. RIP.

The ports are like these.....

Thank you much! Hadn't looked a lot, but all I saw was the natural or polished inline port manifolds.

I was looking at the DSE smoothy plates, but didn't care for the rolled section. I did find a plain one though, forget the source.

Hoping to get my car up to paint next week, collecting trim and other items to finish it. Dang rear molding ticks me off, moved that thing like 3 times, sure it wasn't boogered during the moves, guess it happened here. Shame.

I will, I will do a build thread, just prefer to do it when it's done these days. I don't want it to drag out, especially if I hit a wall as some point for a while.

It's a brewster tribute, restomod/pro-touring build. Doing some vintage speed parts-look stuff on it too.
