Thanks Rocky. Do you have his number handy?
And perhaps would you mind giving him a "heads up" that I'll be calling? |

The muffler you are hearing is 2.25" X 2.25". We can provide the original diameters (2.25" X 2.00"), (2.50" X 2.25" for SD). We can also build 2.5" X 2.5", 3" X 2.5" and 3" X 3" versions. The 3" units will be slightly more expensive because we have to plasma cut the holes in the end caps and internal plates (instead of the normal punching operation). Pricing (diameters up to 2.5") is $139 for aluminized steel and $219 for T409 stainless. You can call us to order: (800) 503-9428 or (269) 467-7185 We haven't added this muffler to our online catalog yet; it will be available online by Monday, Nov 2. We'll be happy to make as many as you need! Joe T

Very cool Rocky. If the Pypes system is very similar.... I always wondered how my Pypes system would sound if I were carjacked and had to witness the getaway!

can someone tell me which muffler this is? Waldrons lists 3 different muffler options : OEM, Mild imposter, and imposter. I'm assuming OEM but want to be sure. Thanks

I wish I could tell you for certain which variation it is, but it was their original design and the others came after it.
Let me see if Tom Hand or Joe Tonietto can shed light on it since they were directly involved. What I can tell you for certain is that the muffler sounds great! |

Rocky, Does that have an 068 cam in it? The idle sounded lumpier than an 068.

So are those 80 series Flowmasters louder than the 40 series and drone more?

I'll try to confirm the details on the muffler we built for you, Rocky. If I remember correctly, the design was a duplication of an original OEM muffler, including the pipe diameters, louver shapes, orientation, positions and quantities. I'll post an update after I talk to the folks at Waldron's. Joe Tonietto

Hello, Joe! Hope you're well.
As I recall, the internal tubing was slightly larger than stock (maybe 2.25" throughout) to improve flow and you packed it with absorptive material to remove the tinny sound and accentuate the lower tones. Does that sound familiar? |

Good ear! At that time we were running the Nunzi 2041, which is 222/232 at .050-inch lift. We've since rebuilt the engine and are now running a 224/236 hydraulic roller.

I'd say they're pretty similar. The 80-series muffler is actually smaller than a pair of 40-series mufflers, and the internal baffling is similar. If there is any sound reduction in the two, it's probably a result of the exhaust pulses crashing into one another on the 80-series.

Since this thread has been recently bumped, I'm going to ask this;
I had a custom system made for my car probably several years before this thread was made. I believe it was 2.25" pipes with a custom made "X" pipe, going into a Dynomax 1772 mufller; I believe that this muffler was not marketed for F-bodies, but rather the Buick Grand Nationals - but I could be wrong. There is alot of talk about the Flowmaster mufflers that many people use, but I believe that this Dynomax was better flowing than any cross-flow Flowmaster, and quieter at the time I chose to do this. The stock configuration, size, and apparent better sound were all what sold me on this particular muffler. Does anyone have any experience with this Dynomax muffler versus the Flowmasters, or the "new" muffler mentioned? I just did several searches and found nothing to compare this muffler against the Flowmaster mentioned. I will be putting a better exhaust on my car some time after it gets on the road, but was contemplating re-using what I have unless I face some unforseen obstacles; I actually just hung the system from the bottom of my trusses the other night, and considering how little it has been driven over the past decade (almost no drive time, just occasionally fired up till I started tearing the car apart five or so years ago), and it has seemed to have held up very well for just regular exhaust shop aluminized pipes - especially considering how much time it spent being parked over dirt!
