Very rare car in good condition.

I don't have much experience with California cars,
Wasn't aware they charged so much for the AIR stuff on them.

Guessing the heads have been changed on the engine -
no signs of AIR provisions.

Which version of heads would a Nov 66 build have gotten ?

I suspect you're thinking of the Chevy style A.I.R. setup. Like two injector tubes
with four ports each threaded into the exhaust manifolds? Pontiac kept things
much cleaner by just using brackets mounted on the front of each head.

HTH.

My notes for 67' YR shows 97 heads with AC.

Bet it's suppose to be AIR instead of AC.

Default AIR

All 670 heads have the AIR passages. You can see the cast-in passage that goes the length of the head just below the valve cover. The '67 RA cars used a mix of heads. The first were modified '670 castings the later heads had a unique casting number (which I cannot recall). Notice the EUN on the PHS matches the engine stamp. Very unusual to see a real-deal "matching number" 4-speed RA!!

Very rare car indeed. Here's what the smog system looks like on the CA RA cars.

I was thinking semi-chevy type system with lines tapped straight into the heads at the machined bosses on the rail below the valve cover area.
Years ago read that was what the provisions were for, but i guess Pontiac one-upped that layout.
Thanks for the pictures and explanations.

Supposedly there were 3 versions of heads used.
670 with no outer mods
670 with 6 and 0 ground off - and 99 stamped alongside the 7
Then finally a cast 997 head.
The only 2 cars i have seen both had the ground off version.

Probably call this one on the tail end of an "early" RA 67 car.
Only 64 YR cars produced according to end of year engine production stats.
YQ (Auto AIR) doesn't even have a stat listed, may have been 0

Also think the YR code threw some bid prospects off track
thinking it was an Automatic converted to 4spd
its a wacky code

Here's a photo showing the open passage ports just outside of the freeze plugs. They are threaded for screw-in plugs on cars without A.I.R..

There are a couple items in the first photo that pertain to it’s A.I.R. equipped engine.

1) Aluminum alternator bracket with provision for Smog tube.
2) Double pulleys on alternator.
Plus the heater hose attached to the RH fender skirt.

The ‘67 illustration showing both cylinder head “plugs” that would be removed for the A.I.R. system, plus the special aluminum bracket.

Looks like there is at least “1” of the ‘67 R/A with automatic and A.I.R. (YQ) which was a test car.

Back in my day I know there were a couple pickup truck configurations where a quantity of 2 were built....and they were both power train test vehicles.

I don't know what to think about how they didn't list out YQ
The penciled in notation is way after the fact, by Fred.
They would have been produced stamped & long-blocked in Michigan
Oversight or Zero ... idunno

I suspect bigger buyers aren't as attracted to a YR coded car with plain looking 670's.
XS with later heads would be the golden geese.
I can kind of relate to that

Color change was odd to Silver
I'm not a Gold fan either though

He's got an ultra rare 67 GTO
I would get together a better detailed in-depth description,
include more pics and info about the completeness of the AIR and Carb,
and list it on Bring-a-Trailer.

I Agree, Full Worthy

But i'd settle for an underhood detail, trunk floor fluffing,
and a set of Rally Ones . Maybe a set of ladder bars

Glasgo didn't you have a Plum Mist 67 R/A car ?

Somebody posted a few pictures of a 67 Plum Mist R/A car a few years back and can't remember who it was now.

Have only heard tale of maybe 12-15 of these cars in the last 30 years.
I think another PY member has an Automatic (maybe White iirc)

Damn
CuznGreg owned it
He's owned about one of everything except a Ram4 JudgeVert and TA Vert

Believe its the same car as my picture too.

5-6-7 years ago there was a Tyrol Blue 4spd RA with a longtime owner on eBay.
maybe even the original owner
Had 69 Ram4 head upgrade back from when Ram4 came out.
The bids started going up and he got cold feet and ended the auction.
Never heard anything else about it.

That was a dark blue car. I had just bought a low mile 67 when this popped up. I should have bought it. It was really cool!
