My sources in Austrailia tell me that a Melbourne newspaper is reporting on a celebration being held at the Holden Elizabeth plant marking the departure of the first "boat of goats" headed to the states. 450 '04 GTOs which have been literally "under wraps" have just been loaded at Port Adelaide just outside Elizabeth, Austrailia.

The ship's departure is scheduled for Tuesday. The 450 GTOs have been stored at the Elizabeth plant under Shade Cloth and wrapped in Plastic sheets for protection.

Who is hoping for one of these first "Goats off the boat"?

Well I have mixed feelings about this car, I mean it has a pretty good design from the front and an engine worthy of a GTO(in my opinion), but they could've done a better job with the back of the car, it's a really big turn off. Maybe their just trying to go for a more modern look, but oh well. I'm no expert compared to some of you older hardcore GTO fans.

Let's hope the Japs don't put a torpedo into it.

I'm sure there are some GTO purists who might think that's a good idea, Bob.

I just changed the oil in the Lightning and will be looking very hard for one. If it win's so be it. It will still be ugly.

I saw one of them in Winston Salem NC, last week, it was definantly one, I only saw the front though, but they just can't compare to the real GTO's....

Unfortunately I have yet to drive an actual '04 GTO. The car intrusted to me in Detroit for one of our Dream Cruise events was a "show car" and not the real thing...one of the two that was brought over for the '03 auto show cuircut.

I have worked with Pontiac in getting Wangers one of the first to hit the shore and I'll get plenty of seat time in that one. And it certainly will not remain "stock" for long. We have some great plans that everyone (who wants to read about them) will see in print. The more things change...the more the stay the same.

And yes, Wangers' GTO will be red just like his first one 40 years ago!

Look forward to the details on Mr. Wanger's car! Other posts here have the photos of the cars waiting to go on the boat if you haven't seen them.

Bob, don't you mean the German's?

Yes, Wangers believes that with a set of tires and a good driver the car should dip into the 12s.

Interesting as they haven't or just left the dock.

Could have been the same load of pilots that were spotted earlier.

It will be amazing if they run under 13, as the Porshe GT3 does a 12.9 and it costs 120K! 2 corners and it would dust the goat but still.
