Just acquired a 7-blade fan, clutch, pulley and water pump from a '70 Pontiac Bonneville w/ PS, PB and AC. The engine is 8-cylinder, but what exactly I dont know (428 maybe?), heads are "15".
At any rate, the PN on the 19" fan is 9796134 with additional numbers of 914997 and J69 above it. Hollander's does not have this fan blade listed for '69 GTO as interchangeable, but I got it anyway being that the water pump has the same casting number 488296 as listed in the Parts Manual for a '69 GTO, does anyone know if this fan and clutch will work with a '69 GTO w/o AC? 1969 Restoration

that fan blade number shows up as correct for ALL 69-71 V8'S w/AC. Since the fan shroud is the same regardless of ac or non ac, I don't see why it wouldn't work for your non ac GTO.

I just got an 18 1/4 7 blade flex fan that has a number 3718 142 1281. Anyone know what this is from? Supposedly it's from an old Pontiac, but I'm not sure.

I seem to remember reading somewhere that the A/C cars 70-72 used a larger 19" fan, and the non-A/C cars used the 18 1/4" fans.
Either way, the fan shrouds you buy are meant for the smaller fan and require a little trimming to get them to fit with the big fan. TIGER EFI - Electronic Fuel Injection for the Traditional Pontiac Engine. bill@tigerefi.com

GDK,that engine is a 455.I found 1 in a Bonne a couple of years back.I kept the fan to use on my '66 before I used a shroud but the blades area
was larger than the fin area on my radiator so I didn't think it was helping. |

Non A/C 455HO & RA cars received the 5 blade flexfans (though the 7 blade clutch fans usually cooled better). Of interest, '72 parts book shows two different 7 blade fans for '69. One with curved tips & one with square bladed tips...hmmmm.
The casting 488296 waterpump, while a "'69 long style" waterpump, was not introduced till '72. As long as you have '69-70 long style w/p pulleys you will be alright with it. Derding,'70 1/2-74 Firebirds with V8 & A/C used the smaller diam 7 blade 18.75" fan. This number fan may have continued into '75 & later years(?) Most of my parts books are '71, 72, & '73 dates & on fans have found it best not to trust superceded numbers (the '83 books). Will look at stack of original fans tomorrow try & ID what you have. Hollander Auto Parts Interchange You might be able to find some on eBay or from someone in the automotive repair or salvage industry. There are different sets for different makes and years, so be sure to verify before you buy. 1969 GTO Restoration
