That A/C ain't ever gonna work if you don't get that drivers door hung back on.

There's only so much I can tell from the picture, but I'm assuming that you have a fixed orifice/cycling compressor setup. In those systems, the accumulator is in between the evaporator discharge and the compressor suction. This prevents any refrigerant still in liquid state from entering the compressor. In a system using a thermal expansion valve (TXV), the receiver/drier (looks much like an accumulator) is plumbed in between the condenser discharge and the inlet to the TXV.

From what I can see, it looks like you have an accumulator for a fixed orifice setup, yet it looks like it is connected to the condenser like in a TXV system.

What type of system do you have? TXV or fixed orifice/cycling compressor?

Goathead,
Try the links below for a pretty good AC system description and diagrams:

http://www.aircondition.com/dsmobileac/fot.html
http://www.aircondition.com/dsmobileac/expvalve.html

They cover both expansion valve and fixed orifice systems. If you have any really deep tech questions, try www.ackits.com and check out their tech forum. It's big, and has a number of experts who will be able to answer most any question.

Jeff, the clearences are an optical illusion, there are at least 1 1/2 inches all around...we have "created" this system and will be charging it up today. Wish me luck...

PS: This not a racecar, it's a Texas street cruiser, built it for my grandmother...

Steve, I got the serpentine system from March, but the A/C is pretty much custom.

The original underdash unit is being used, includion the wiring and dash controls, with all new under the hood components including the Sanden compressor, with the original condenser.

If you want, I will send you some detailed pictures via email....

Goathead,

I guess the serpentine kit will fit on my car if i replace the timing cover, water pump, and either get a longer crank or mill the balancer... now where to find these parts
