disc brake conversion with 14 in wheels
i am going to have the front suspension parts on my 65 lemans upgraded and i figured that while the car is apart, i could convert to front disk brakes. i have 14" cragars and good tires so i have no interest in going to 15" wheels.
interested in hearing from anyone who has converted to disc and kept 14" wheels without any problems. who was the supplier and who made the kit? would be great if i could get the suspension upgrade and the disc conversion from the same company. i looked through some of the threads and could not get any answers. thanks, paul |

Might want to post it in street section or suspension section. I think that scare birds brackets work with 14 inch wheels, uses stock spindle. Also there has been lots of posts about same thing so try a search.

I did the same thing. I wanted to keep the original rims and hubcaps. But remember the Master Cylinder is going from one to two reservoirs. You'll need some additional work on your brake lines. The "Right Stuff" has a kit. But, you'll need to buy their brake line kit too.

I upgraded my '64 GTO using the A Body kit from Stainless Steel Brakes. The kit will not work with stock 14" steel wheels but there are no clearance issues with Cragars, Rally II's or Wheel Vintiques Series 62 steel wheels.

I upgraded to front disks with a kit from http://www.inlinetube.com and I run stock 14" wheels in front on my 65; This was a few years ago so check with them if anything has changed, but kit was great and no surprises.

I used the SSBC kit as well, and uses a prop valve and front brake lines from Inline Tube. I just didnt like the prop valve from the kit, and didnt want to bend my own front lines.
I'm not sure when rexus did his conversion and if the kit changed, but I did mine about 15 years ago, and was able to use steel rims. I just had to buy new 14x6 steel rims at the time because the stock 14x5's wouldnt fit over the calipers. But I got to keep my original spinners in the end! |

The stock OEM (69-72) disc brake kit fits 14" Cragar SS wheels, at least the ones I sell do.
