Default 73 T/A Saddle interior dye

Would you guys have any idea on the correct dye for a 73 saddle interior? I got a can of dye from Ames that's supposedly correct for a 73, but it's really light, almost like a later tan interior.

I grabbed a can of saddle for a 70 hoping it'll be darker, but I haven't sprayed it yet.

What say PY?

John you may look at a SEM chip book they may have it formulated. also try calling SEM I have on my bright blue . They are very accommodating and can give you a dealer of there product in your area. A suppler with a mixing bank can probably match up buy mixing up the color . Most jobbers will work to get a color match . Just like a body shop does to tint a color for body repair.

Another place to look is the corvette suppliers. Corvette America has there own label of interior color for vinyl for the vettes of all years .

I mixed up some base for hard parts and just used a low gloss clear . I have a ton of color left over from jobs at shop

dld, when did PPG stop offering interior paints?

This link is 5 years old but I'm wondering if they can still mix up good match vinyl paints to their original UCV codes?

That is a color line that's not available to me in Maryland or other states that have adopted new VOC regulation . that system is a replacement for uvc formulas . you may or will find it hard to get due to limited use. PPG suppliers wont have the mixing system to make the product. of course PPG will not sell to public .

that onechoice line is like a sideline. similar to Omniis for PPG . say a accessory line .

Can u post a pic of the interior of your car just for comparison sakes....
My car is gutted and all seats and trim are on benches...
Maybe even a pic of the sprayed dye u got from Ames????
No matter what u get get enough to do ALL the interior cause it’ll never match anything previously....
I’ve kinda asked around on here and there seems to be different shades of saddle year to year as well....

My interior is all out too. I'm redoing the dash, and the stuff I got is pretty tan, like the later cars, but my original dash is a lot more brown/reddish like red clay.

The seats are new, redone with nos material that was stitched up by an expert upholsterer. They're beautiful, but make the rest of the interior look old, hence the question of paint/dye. lol

I meant the mottled vinyl.....not paint...

Perhaps Legendary uses the correct vinyl ........PUI was the only vendor of 73 Firebird seat covers....back when I was looking back when...

if you buy color you can tint with other shades to get what you like . A body shop painter can help with that . Most guys will enjoy helping

Of course this goes for any color . just making a example

Like Sandalwood, Saddle is different colors and shades on different substrates. My cars, the seats were always a bit darker brown than any other part of the interior. Due to this, I never tried to match panels to the seats.

73 saddle....is all by itself.......

It has more red in it than 72.....and different than 74.....which is lighter

I would say a custom SEM mix....might get you close....but factory seats and door panels had a faint black mottling in the vinyl....

Saddle in 73........Red in 75....and blue in 76........were all mottled....and I doubt that it can be duplicated correctly....with a spray....

You can always tell a reproduction 73 saddle interior....because it's NEVER correct...

I did this one about 20 years ago.......Upper door panels are original....and had the drivers seat repaired with 2 other donor seats covers.......I matched the replacement carpet to the original.....The orange is a nice contrast to saddle seats,etc...

AFAIK......Vinyl DYE....does not exist.....SEM is actual vinyl PAINT.

dld, not good news but thanks.

72projectbird, that's a bummer. My dash was sprayed black years ago. It looks terrible now, peeling in places, and worse in others.

I was planning on having it re-done by someone like Just Dashes and counting on them to get the color right.

My Console was missing entirely so I bought a used one that I believe came from a '73 Dark Saddle interior (I trusted the Seller but most of the the high priced parts I bought were not much better than junk, the Console was rougher than the one I saw in pix he posted, so in the end, I'd never buy from that outfit again).

But if it is a correct '73 and if the Console color is supposed to match the Dash color, I'd agree the M35 looks way more like a later Tan color than '73 Dark Saddle.

I'd judge the color of my Console to be the same color as the one I see in the pic cnc posted earlier.

Gotta be a solution, I've seen plenty of nicely restored '73 and '75 'birds with the Dark Saddle interior, including some high dollar SD TAs that looked to be pretty correct looking to my eye.

Yeah it's way lighter than it should be. Sucks cuz I spent almost $75 in paint from Ames and they're not even close.

I found a color by SEM that looks close online, so I'm trying that now.
