Default Factory carpet install question.

I have pulled the carpet out of a few all original 65 GTo's. Did the factory put the seats in first and then the carpet??

Normal method is for the rear carpet section and rear seats to be installed by the Fisher line. Body then went to final assembly line (usually on same property). In final assembly the dash is installed, steering column, front carpet section and then seats. This is why the front carpet section overlaps the rear piece.

Is this consistent with what you observed when taking apart original cars?

The cuts on the carpet and the way it laid over the seat mounting bolts, led me to think the front seats were installed before the front carpet. Just my thoughts, but I have been wrong before. I appreciate your explanation which certainly makes sense.

Yep, that is the cuts I have seen. Since the hold down bolts were under the carpet, I thought maybe seats were placed first and then carpet put down. Thanks for photo.

Maybe the seats were first. Interesting.
Anyone seen the carpet for bench seat cars?
