Default Machine Shop

Can anyone recommend a machine shop in the Raleigh, NC area? I already pulled my engine out of one shop that I no longer trust and I need to find a shop that does good work and at least has done some work on a Pontiac engine.

Thanks.

I see this question once in a great while and always surprises me being in Nascar country. Best of luck Tim finding something you're happy with.

I was wondering why a fellow would ask that question, and then I realized that most people don't rebuild engines anymore. And racers buy their engines from companies that specialize those types of engines, or "crate' engines". So I guess all the old standby machine shop owners either retired or passed away. And because there are no more "shop" classes in secondary schools, kids aren't headed in that direction. I hope I'm wrong.

C & W Machine, Wayne Sless knows Pontiacs, a few here have had good experiences with him.

They are in SC, but from what I understand, it would be worth the trip.

Wayne has an FB page, Joe Jackson uses him as well.

I can look a little more around Raleigh give me a few.

Perspective. ... You know how strange and useless a flathead engine is to us ???

Not long from now our generation of powerplants will seem the same to most people, just a fact..

CME is the other one I was thinking of, they have done Pontiacs, but have no personal experience with them:

http://www.cmengines.com/Home/tabid/36/Default.aspx

CME has crate Pontiac engines:

http://www.cmengines.com/Engines/Dyn...0/Default.aspx

Boyettes is the other, same, no personal experience with them:

https://www.boyettesmachineshop.com/

I have heard of folks using CME for Pontiacs, as well as Boyettes.

Boyettes looks like they have newer equipment, but no pics of the shop at CME.

Caster1 and 64speed have had engines done by Wayne Sless. Caster1 has his in his car and put a bunch of miles on it. I PM'd hime awhile ago and he was very happy with his Sless engine. Caster1 lives in eastern NC and came to Greenwood SC (50 miles SE of Greenville, SC) to have Wayne do his engine. Unless Hwystr455 has newer info than me, the last I knew Wayne was still with Greenwood Auto Parts, 2005 Edgefield St., Greenwood, SC 29646, phone: 864-229-6665. . (I've talked with Wayne about doing my engine when I get up the $$$$.)
I've included Caster1's thread here to read his thoughts on Wayne and his engine

That very well could be, I was going off his FB page on where he worked now. That info could be old.

Betts Racing Engines, Salisbury, NC. He is presently doing a 400 for 68Wardog (a close friend of mine) and apparently Betts used to build engines with Nunzi.

I have personally used Boyettes but it's been about 10 years. One of the "old" guys there had done quite a bit of Pontiac work. They built me a nice, mild 455 that ran quite well.

Wayne is in Anderson now, he no longer runs Greenwood Autoparts. You will not find a better engine builder. I have video of mine running too if you want it

Yes, the 'old guy' is John Sr., and have heard thru the grape vine he was doing Pontiacs and had historical knowledge plus a good reputation.

My only knowledge of Joe Jackson is thru acquaintances via FB, never even have spoke to him. But have followed Wayne's stuff on his page and seems he knows his stuff.

Great. That puts him a lot closer to me than Greenwood. Thanks for the info.

Hey guys,

I've put about 5000 miles on the Wayne Sless built 461 stroker. The biggest trouble I have had is upgrading the rest of the running gear to match the torque and HP it puts out. It is STRONG, seriously fun to drive albeit traction challenged...lol. I would recommend Wayne Sless in a second. Master machinist and exceptional engine builder.

Tommy
