I recently bought a repro at a swap meet for my 70, put it on this week and of course it didn't allow enough clearance for the fan. Question is, as I cut to fit am I decreasing the effectiveness and purpose of the shroud? By the time I'm done I would imagine I've taken off a piece 1" in and about 9 to 10" long?
Thanks.

To the best of my knowledge, there is no reproduction fan shroud available for the '70 GTO, so you probably got the GM original.
If your fan is hitting it, investigate your motor mounts. Worn motor mounts will cause a problem with clearance. Also make sure you have all the rubber spacers for the shroud... upper and lower. |

Well, that's interesting. I recall it being for a 69 but would fit the 70, and it appears to. I was told it is a repro and PY caries a repro.
Can't be the rubbers, have the lowers but no uppers. If I had the uppers it would hit even more. I cut it, should be ok...

The new shroud is a GM piece, just ordered 2 more. Main difference in current GM shroud & '69 & early '70 shroud is the notch cutout in the corner. This was a result of mold deterioration & this notch first appeared in mid '70 production. All late '70-72 cars should have the notch partially exposing the upper rubber insulator.
