Game Changer 5-speed from Tremec
No more cutting for a-bodies! This is awesome!
A more mainstream replacement for the legend, which was unavailable and under capitalized. https://shiftsst.com/tremec-tkx-5-speed

Good for 600 ft-lbs of torque, too. I've read it costs under $3,000 but don't know details about that.

Yeah! Finally made a TKO case that fits.
Otherwise here is what you had to do to fit a Tremec TKO in an A-body Lemans GTO: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Uwie8oypJWY Now get on it purists and drive your car. Won't regret it. Ask anyone and they will tell you that a trans swap is the best thing they ever did. And now it can be done without mods. Last edited by 65madgoat; 11-06-2020 at 01:57 PM. |

Wish they had these when I cut the top off my transmission tunnel, and got a sunburn welding in my malformed home made higher tunnel.

I sent in a request for quote for my '64.
Including shifter, driveshaft, fluids and delivery it's just a tick under $4300.00. This is for the 3.27 first gear and the .72 overdrive. |

The Email I received back from them indicated when a 1st gen F- body kit would be available but no indication if cutting required.. We'll have to sit back and see.....

I'm guessing the Richmond 5 speed(Updated Doug Nash4+1) does not fit A bodies or has some other concerns?
https://www.richmondgear.com/wp-cont...hmond/RG22.pdf At $2600 with a shifter seems like an option. |

I love the fact that the Richmond transmission can be taken apart and rebuilt with a socket set, screwdriver and a hammer. Really simple. Wonder what the fitment issues would be in an old B body like a 62 Catalina? The price is very attractive as well. I sent off for an estimate on the TKX as well. Both are interesting.

Had another look and I see Jegs has all three 1st gear ratios available but the 3.08 1st gear version “C” is just under $3100 instead of 3600 for the other two. |

I believe there might be an automatic overdrive or two that will bolt in, but no manuals.

I'll believe it once people actually order them AND receive them in a timely manner... I'm a little cynical after the drama over the last time...

I did not cut the tunnel except for the shifter hole in my 64 with the TKO600 Extreme with the streamlined case from American Powertrain. Now the only caveat is all my body bushings are new and the car sits as it should

We've installed the Silver Sport TKO-600 in two '67 GTO's and neither had to have the tunnel cut. One car required nothing for the trans to slip in place, and the other tunnel needed two areas the size of quarters tapped away from the top edge corner of the trans. Might or might not have touched, but too easy to do without the trans in the car.
Problem with the Richmond is that the shifter porch has to be moved 3" to the rear which means the console is either left out or also slid the 3" back. The photos of the TKS 5-Speed case look great and I'd opt for this new design. The 7,500 RPM shifting limit far surpasses the old 6,000 RPM limit of the standard TKO-600. I opted for the carbon fiber lined synchro's and that was only advertised as 6,500+ RPM. Most of us won't get anywhere near the new limit, but still a nice improvement.

I sent away for what they call a "quick quote" for the trans and installation pieces. Had a very detailed 2 page quote sent back in 2 days. Total cost would be $4165.00 including shipping. About $2800.00 for the trans alone. $1100.00 for all the installation parts. Then shipping. They indicated no modifications would be needed for the tunnel and shift porch. Seem to be professional and detail oriented. BTW, this was for a 62 Catalina, Bench seat.

I’ve been thinking about putting a 5-speed in my ‘67, and this seems to have addressed everything that was holding me back. If it fits A and F bodies without cutting the floor and it shifts as nicely as the T56, they’re going to sell a lot of these.

So is this all the guts from a TKO600 in a different case?
