The angled 2 in the upper right corner has something to do with the Baltimore Plant - my 05A built GTO has an angled 4 in the corner.

Thanks Boss,
I'm going to look carefully at my PHS and try to figure what it might be. Also looking at other threads for clues on the Baltimore tags.
Maybe there is something on the billing history? mine has 2 in box 38, and another in box 65.
Or on the order form, mine in area #38 is 2 for radio and antenna, # 47 has a 2 for console, #50, 2 for power brakes, #65 2 for trunk light, # 67 2 for ign. light.
I wonder if any of these would be my tag's 2, or if there is any commonality here with your embossed 4.

I've got a 4 in 40, 41, 44, and 75 - what's 75?

In the PHS papers, the order forms go to #73, I don't see where information for the billing history, boxes 74-80, comes from. Also, the order forms are copys of blanks, not the original for my car. I wonder if somewhere, the originals exist?

The DuPont formula # for Carnival Red is 4961 and Carousel Red is 5021 and they have different colors/tints in the formula

Default Packard Paint clues?

I took the trunk lid off my car to check the color with a "spectrachromatic scanner", no exact match, not Hugger,Carousel, or Carnival. The closest was Big Bad Orange but still not exact.
I took a bolt from the door hinge to a NAPA which has old books for Martin Senyour.
I believe I found an exact match with 1956 Packard Naples Orange, code "T", Martin Senour # 61T-2491.
Does anyone have any formulas or numbers for other producers of the '56 colors that you might be able to post?
I'm hoping to get lucky and match a paint formula with the top numbers on my trimtag.
Thanks

Could you post a close up photo of the trunk lid, specifically where it bolted to the hinge? I'm curious what the primer is.

So your thinking is that Pontiac used a 1956 Packard color as a one-off on your car and possibly devised a code to notate it on your trim tag?

Those areas not coated with orange paint are surface rusted. The trunk lid has been off for a couple years, and was bare metal where it was bolted to the hinges.

My information points toward it being a Packard color. The original owner told me she ordered it as such. The Special Equipment order form, included in my PHS packet, has a line to list "Make of Car & Year Paint Used" (bottom of form, see attached). I am trying to document what my car was, and the discovery of the code being on Bill' s tag gives me the idea that, if the numbers were known for 56 Packard Naples Orange, they might correlate with the numbers on the top of my trim tag.

I don't get here too often anymore but just happened to see this topic. I have a Carnival Red GTO (1 of 2108). This color (along with 3 others) was only available with Endura Delete option. Here is some information you might find useful,

68pongto,
Thank you for the Dupont/Packard specific information, that will be helpful.

GTOken,
Nice car! Do you have any extra numbers above body #, on your cowl trim tag?

It just didn't work that way... If you can prove that I would be shocked! Why the codes are the way they are, I can't explain. It is very obvious to me your car is Carnivale Red.

Wase, that number has nothing to do with the color.

My 05A Baltimore built car has 163517 in that location and my car is Verdoro Green.

Your car is Carnival Red - a very cool rare color.

wase, you seem adamant that you do not want that car to be Carnival Red...
Here are the facts that make me believe it's Carnival Red

-The Special Paint sheet you attached above shows Code 1
-The Billing History shows body color to be 1
-The two documented Carnival red cars shown in this thread show body color 1 on the data plates.

Like I said earlier, a Carnival Red '68 Convert with Endura delete is a very special car..Don't fight it! LOL
If there is one mystery to the car I think it's the '29' between the 1s on the data plate.

Greg is correct on the only mystery being the paint code with the 29.

And I'm sure he was meaning to type carnival red, not cardinal red, all four times.

If your car was a very early production car, and I mean VERY EARLY, I could see the possability of the car having some crazy non-Pontiac color. Maybe being special ordered for use as who knows what. Since it is a late production car, after the availability of the Carnival color, and it has the same paint code as the other Carnival cars, I can't see any way the car was painted 56 Packard Orange. It would be the only GM car I have ever seen NOT painted a GM color from the factory. Like I said in a prior post, it just didn't work that way.

Your car is very, very cool as it is, Carnival Red.
