Question 1970 with 15 inch tires and big bar. question

My buddy has a '70 Formula 400 with the RPO F41 . Pre-Y99. This includes 15 inch Ralleys ( yes "those" Ralley wheels). Should this car get the T/A glove box decal? I was thinking it should, but would like some confirmation. Thanks and Happy 2K20 !

I have noticed that some Formulas have RPO F41, and others don't;
I haven't yet seen a rhyme or reason - if it was only seen on cars with 15" Ralley II's, I could see where you're going - but I have seen it on cars with 14" wheels too.
I almost wonder if part way into the model year the F41 started showing up on Formulas to flag for the assembly workers that these cars had front and rear swaybars (because if my memory serves me, the Formula and Trans Am were the only ones to recieve a rear sway bar).
???

Formulabruce, Our very original '70 Formula 400 has its original glove box door tire sticker and it shows all the model's tires available.

Thanks Dennis ! Exactly what I was looking for.

unruhjonny . Chevy started using F-41 back in '67 on the Z-28, ( 15 inch tires), AND on the "pacesetter Sale" cars, which were 6 cylinder std shift cars with a SS stripe.
I think it had the z 28 stiffer front springs too and special shocks.
The F41 was a carryover into Pontiac as Chevy rear ends were used on all 12 bolt applications. Still Baffles me as to the complete list of exactly whats included, but I am sure it varies due to car line the F41 was used on.
In Later years the RPO Z-71 was pretty clear on what you got with Chevy ( trucks) , and the Y-99 was pretty clear in Pontiac.

Hi Bruce,
To my knowledge, on a '70 Formula, the only way to get 15" wheels was to specifically order the 15" tires (Order Code "TNL", which shows up on the invoice as "F60X15 WL FG"). The JW 15" Rally Wheels came with them, but were not shown on the invoice, and could not be gotten on a Formula any other way. Nor could a 15" non-Rally II wheel.

I've never seen "F41" as a priced option on a '70 Formula, either. The suspension options that included 15" wheels on Formulas started in '71.

What does your friend's invoice say? Or what makes you think it was a 15" wheel car?

Both my T/A and Formula, a 14" Rally II car, have same tire decal (original in both cases) in the glovebox as Dennis posted.

I cant find it right now, but I have seen the paperwork. 3.31 Safety Track and sales order TNL had the F60X15 RWL that were Fiberglass belted. Had Jw's as well but those were swapped out before it went into a long storage. Appears someone offered some radials on Honeys.. Too bad. My Cousin, who worked at Norwood told me that the workers called the 15 inch tire cars as F41 cars, which Chevy did have as an RPO. I guess that's sort of meaningless, but these cars were built side by side. Like WS6, which means Wide Suspension 2 bars and 4 springs . The Glove box on my 1970 Base had only 14 inch tires listed and says KM at top right. The correct one for this car should be the KN as pictured above which lists the 15 inch tire option. IMHO
The Glove Box door below is from a Base 1970 Firebird that had wheel covers on 14's.

Formulabruce, When was that Formula assembled and which plant? Ours is a Norwood 04D car. I wonder if the 15" wheel/tire option was offered later in the model year and this Formula is an early one before the option was available, hence the KN w/o the F60's???

Dennis;
That tire sticker shows the standard and optional tires for the base and aesprit models;
that sticker would never have been (intentionally) used on a Formula or Trans Am.

Formulas could be had with F70-14. the KM sticker provides that info.

The pic above is Not from my buddy's Formula, the sticker fell off long ago. His '70 Formula 4 speed car is a 04D car IIRC . My post was to figure out if the 15" cars got the KN sticker. I have seen the KM sticker on 14" Formulas with F70-14 tires on the car. I guess I am not convinced that Formulas and TA got one sticker, and the Base and Esprit got another. .

except; the F70-14 was optional on the base and Esprit.

The F70-14 is also listed on the KN sticker as well:

Formulabruce,
Formulas were equipped with F70-14 BW tires as the standard tire with WL's optional. F70-14's were optional on the base and Esprit models. It seems to make sense to me that the KM sticker was for base and Esprit model, while the KN sticker was the Formula and TA...but the KN does list the F78-14 tire???

I'm guessing that the word "recommended" is key there.

Your Glove box looks like a '72. All the 1970 ones I have seen have the two "square" " cup areas" and stickers with squared edges... thoughts?

I take it you missed my words right above the picture (which you quoted);
I found a picture of my glove box door with only tattered pieces clinging in place...
So mines' gone the way of the dodo bird.
