Default '74 Fender Date Codes

Fellas, I looked at a nice original paint '74 Firebird the other day. I was able to see the fender date codes in their usual location but the number did not end in 3 or 4. Isn't the last number in the series supposed to be the year of production?

Did '74 fenders have a different coding system?

Not that I'm aware of. What did they have stamped in them?

LS2X,

Where did you get that avatar? That car looks awfully familiar....

Lightbulb Here's the Codes

Fellas, I now have the codes that are stamped on the top of the fenders where you typically find them. The car in question is a 74 T/A.

Left side: 1220B
Right side: 11B30R

This car looks to be all original including the paint. I thought there should be a 74 somewhere in the code as my 73 Formula has 73 as part of the code on both fenders??

Do these numbers look right to anyone?

Does anyone know if T/A fenders were coded differently? This car I'm looking at sure seems 100% original.

1A25 M74 is stamped on the pass fender on my `75 formula , i know the fender is not the original one to the car , the drivers side has no stampings on the top anywhere that i can find and im pretty sure it`s the original one , and my `78 formula has no numbers stamped on the top of the fenders that i can find ,,,

Did you check the date code on the hood ? You do know there is one there as well ?

The hood checks out fine. I'm convinced these are factory painted/installed fenders, I guess not all of them have a year stamped in the code sequence.

I have seen this on 73 cars too and I mean original ones. Im not sure what the codes rep but figure its a possible change in the location of manufacturing ?
Good question ans one that been out there for a while.

I did, yesterday actually. '74 T/A, 400 4-SPD. I'm going to start a new thread soon with the car's specs. I have a hunch some of the folks on this board may know this car and I'd like to hear what they have to say about it.

Just checked the formula fenders:

Drivers Side: 2B4 I74
Pass Side: 1A22 M74

My car has a build date of 2nd week of February.
Do the Formula hood have a date code and where can it be found.
