Slowbird (Brian) father is supposed to have a radically modified 66 Rochester Carb Tri-Power set-up that runs 10s.
Do not know of anyone faster than that car. Have no clue on the HP or how the engine was built either. Tom V.

Nice hes using factory intake? I seen that Dave Wilcox was making an aftermarket intake. Has anyone got their hands on it yet?

Dave Wilcox does very nice work. He ported my Barry Grant Tri-Power Intake.
I have not seen pics of his version of the Pontiac Tri-Power Intake. Tom V.

9-second Tri-Power
This thread was written when a reproduction ‘66 aluminum intake was being used, a modified ‘65 intake (‘66 center carb adapted) was used previously.
https://forums.maxperformanceinc.com...d.php?t=786323 One could expect getting around 500 hp using a fairly stock ‘65 or ‘66 factory setup on a well-built street engine.

My 66 2+2 421 Tri Power, ran NMCA Pure Stock at 4550 Lbs. Ran 13.60's with iron manifolds, a 276/284 Untradyne cam, 19" of vacuum at 1000 Rpm's. Very smooth. 440 HP @ 5800 RPM's 520 Ft. Lbs Torque @ 3000 RPM. Very smooth street car, "stock" iron heads. This was in 1982. Allot has changed in technology since then.. I could make the same combination produce 30-40 more HP from what I have learned in the last 35 years.

I don’t think he ever made it due to lack of interest.

Just saw this, my dad is running 9.5s with tri-power, last dyno session (years ago) it made 750hp.

That’s pretty awesome, any details you’d like to share on the intake and carbs?

Anyone ever dyno a factory stock 66 389 tri-power motor with a 068 cam and factory manifolds? I’d be curious what the setup produces with 093 non-screw in rocker stud heads. One of the pure stock guys has probably done this.

264 horsepower on a Factory 66 389 Tri-Power.
Which was a good number since Super Chevy did a rear wheel test on a 454 LS-6 engine that made 288 HP. "Some Super Chevy readers must have been stunned to see that an LS6 Chevelle SS, with 450-hp rating, put down 288 rear wheel hp in the dyno test." Tom V.

The dyno used for the Pontiac Test was an Old School Froude Water Brake Dyno.
Pretty common in the old days to be 75 to 100 hp below the rated HP number. Tom V.
