I've had two pairs of Redwing boots and one pair of their shoes in the last few yesrs and all three have been pure garbage that didn't last six months. Yes, they fit great and were very comfortable, but they absolutely fell apart. I'm not hard on my shoes like some folks with seriously abusive professions, but even these boots were done after six months. Stitching coming unraveled, soles worn down smooth and separating from the body of the boot, etc.. cheaply made chinese crap with glued on soles that still cost $215, and can't be repaired, and they won't honor their warranty. I'm extremely disappointed with what they have become and am seaching for a replacement myself.

Best boots?
Great question.
A co-worker swears by Redback boots with the insoles. All back problems gone. I haven’t made the switch but would love to hear input by someone who has.

Thanks for all the good info. I am checking into several brands to see what might work for me.
Seems like Quality has gone down in a lot of brands that used to be good comfortable long lasting boots. Hope others chime in and tell what works best for them. maybe this thread can help others also.

I've been using Redwing 6" high work shoes for 25+ yrs. I prefer them even walking at shows. Leather lasts,i need new now as these are 2yrs old.I look at cheaper priced shoes as these I have now aren't cheap. I will get Redwings, strings, grommets, soles last.

What about Schmidt boots and shoes at the Tractor Supply?

Been in them for 30 years...make sure you get the kicked up insoles. All other boots don’t cut it in the Autobody repair world.

Would you go to Walmart to get your teeth cleaned ? Tractor supply is now a shoe store ? I wouldn’t buy my boots where I get my dog food.

I like Timberland Pro 24 7. They are kinda of going down hill since they started manufacturing in china.

Most Red Wing shoes and boots are made here in the US (in Red Wing, MN just down the river from Minneapolis), but they also have a lower priced line that is made offshore. You have to look at that when you're buying them.

"The Red Wing Shoe brand is primarily Assembled in America with Chinese materials at the company's plants in Potosi, Missouri and a plant in Red Wing, Minnesota." Red Wing's heritage line is still made in the US(of imported chinese materials). Most of their other boots are made entirely in china. My two pairs of boots and one pair of shoes were all made in china. Your one example does not represent their whole lineup. |

I think it would be more accurate to say that their far more expensive lineup is made in the US, but their more normally priced boots are chinese. I shouldn't have to spend $350 to get a good pair of US made boots any more.

Mike wears Wolverine, mid ankle high, with the padded collar, and Dr. Schols work boot inserts. They may say construction workers inserts on the package.

I've found that the comfort lies in having the kicked up insole and a fairly substantial amount of heel. Not like stripper shoes, but you know what I mean.

I've had Redbacks, Timberland and Blundstones. Maybe others but I remember these 3.
The Blundstones have my tick of approval. I wear a pair every day to work and I have a pair for the weekends. Those weekend guys have taken me through dozens of cities in many countries. The one pair of weekenders have carried me to London, the USA, France, India, Thailand, Vietnam, Cambodia, all around Australia. They can be a bit heavy to wear on an aircraft so I usually pack them in my checked luggage and just wear slip on's to fly but soon as I have to start hoofing it, the Blunies go on. Point is, for comfort I can't beat them. Never get tired feet, legs or back after wearing them all day.

Wasn't too many years ago that you could buy a really solid set of boots for well under $200, and they would last a lot more than a year. What happened that caused the price to double while the quality simultaneously went down? $350 is a LOT of money to spend on a pair of boots that only last a year.

How much is your back and feet worth? Redwings years ago were my go to work boot. Lately Australian made Rossi is my brand of choice. I get 1 1/2 to 2 years out of them for $150ish? Past cheap a$$ co workers would go thru 4 pair of $40 boots and their fee in same amount of time and their feet nearly always hurt?
