Which style of Johnson hyd roller lifer to use
Going to purchase a set of Johnson hyd roller lifters and there are three styles with different amounts of travel. Wondering which one would be the best choice. They will be for a .040 over 400 with a Howards cam. 226.6/236.6 110LSA with .560 lift. Mostly street but some strip. Thanks

I purchased a set of the short travel rollers for mine. Closest thing to solid roller without going to a solid roller... Everywhere i read, they where overwhelmingly considered to be the best option.

The short travel appear to make more HP than the others according to some dyno sessions.
There was a discussion about this a while back but don't remember the outcome or where it went. |

There are a few guys on FB that Jim Lehart ( Central VA Machine) built engines for and used LS lifters with a modified Ford spider.

I have used the short travel ones and worked out great. They do need to be adjusted properly though. At the time I made a fixture that I used to fine tune the adjustment. I sold that engine and they are still in use with very good results.

I called the plant manager at Johnson Lifter Joe Lewis and asked him this question and for a street rod he recommended the 2112OPR and below is what he recommended.
He said that all the Johnson Pontiac hyd rollers are slow bleed For a street rod he recommends using is their 2112OPR TRAVEL = .092 Recommend preload = .035 +.010/.000 Valve Spring Pressure on seat min. 150 max 185 Over the nose min 350 max 530

Thanks to all who answered and thanks Tim for reaching out to Johnson. I did end up going with the 21120PR as Johnson and Butler recommended. At first I wanted to go with the short travel as so many say you will pick up some HP but thought I should stick with what was recommended by the experts.
