1974 Trans Am. 4010 lbs with me and 1/2 a tank of gas.

- Original 400 ci. Stock crank, rods, pistons... Was rebuilt in 1988 to stock spec.s.
- Completely stock 4x heads with the exception of some Crane RV cam from 1988. Not ported.
- Edelbrock Performer intake with out of the box Holley 650DP. Original intake and carb were long gone when I got it.
- Hedman 3 tube headers with Flowmaster 2.5" exhaust, H-pipe with original style Flowmaster crossflow muffler.
- K&N air filter in the Shaker scoop. Opened flap.
- Stock GM HEI with Mallory coil, cap, module and Accel wires. Originally came with unitized Ignition, but was long gone when I got it.
- Original TH400 trans with Shift kit. Rebuilt in 1990. Stock converter.
- original 10 bolt rear end with 3.42:1 gears.
- 225/70-15 BFGs on stock Honeycombs.
- Koni Red shocks, stock rear leaf springs with no traction aids. Front stock replacement springs, stock sway bars with poly bushings.
- This is as basic a combination as can be. It has been dead reliable for the past 17 years I've owned it. Drive 75 miles to the track, race, and drive home.

Best E.T. to date: 14.19 @ 97.42, with crappy 2.1 60' times leaving at idle. Car has more in it, but I can't tune a carb to save my life

New best ET is 12.06 @ 113 with 1.75 60' time.

Still dialing in combo - shooting for 11's. Need to get 60' times down. MPH is consistently in the 110-114mph range. ET varies from 12.0* to 12.3 depending on launch / 60'.

Edit:
10/13/07 - new best is 12.01 @ 113 on motor 11.31 @ 122 on 100hp shot
Nitrous system is an NOS top shot (sits on top of carb) - 150 shot coming soon...

10/26/07 track trip yielded a new all motor pass of 11.82 @ 114mph with 1.74 60'
- still don't have a solid pass with the 150 shot.

Default EFI 455 Street and Strip

1967 Pontiac Tempest 2 Dr. HT ...originally an OHC-6 1barrel w/ 3 on the tree.

This car was designed and built to be a REAL street and strip car. As such, it is by definition, a compromise. It is not another of the all too numerous “race cars with a license plate” that pretend to be called a “street car” while screaming down the highway at 4000 RPM, sucking fuel like a Titan rocket! Seriously, what kind of gas mileage do you get and how practical and reliable is it on a long road trip? Oh, well! ...to each his own! My goal is a stealthy, reliable, pump gas friendly and relatively economical road cruiser that is also capable of kicking some ass in the quarter mile!

Engine Details, Etc.:
1970 XF code, 4-bolt main, 455 +.050 (467 cu. in.)
Stock Nodular crank turned 0.010

Rear end:

TA Performance Rear End Girdle
Moser custom alloy axles
SSM lift bars
Split, independent-fill air shocks
275-50-15 BFG Drag Radials (track)
245-60-15 BFG Radial T/A (street)

Misc.
PST polygraphite front suspension kit
MBM power front disc brake kit
OMZ Racing seats
Hurst Line-Lok

Highway Performance: Getting close to 20 MPG @ 70 mph cruise at 5% throttle!
-Runs nicely on the 91 octane oxygenated crap gas found here in Phoenix.

¼ Mile Performance: Only 1 trip to the track so far; ET 13.05 @ 107 mph with a momentary starting line bog and resulting lousy 60 ft. times. Pulls very hard thru top end!
More tuning needed w/TBI at launch.
-Looking for mid to upper 12’s?!
…Stay tuned!

Weight: ~3700 lbs. w/ driver

I am planning on installing 1 5/8 4 tube headers w/cossover and 1.65 rockers

The above combination produced 474 LB/FT of torque at 4000 RPM and 417HP at 5000 RPM on My Performance Trends Engine Analyzer. The torque curve was very flat only varying 71 lb/FT from 3000 to 4000 RPM. I used N0.62 heads for the flow example with 9.5:1 compression. Take it for what it's worth.
