Congrats on the new car. Best of my knowledge all F-body's were produced at 2 plants only. Van nuys in CA and Norwood in OH. Cant answer the question about the vin, but I would assume there is nothing special about the number, there may be a special designation in the first part of the coding though (as the tenth anniv has an X).

yes pace cars have the X in the vin... 1981 changed to the longer vin numbers compared to previous years.
does it still have the original turbo motor? lots of people dont like them & while they arent big HP like the bigger cubic inch motors, they can run very good when tuned right & with very few basic mods can run as fast or faster than a stock 76-79 400 or 455 t/a. if the engine is still in decent running condition i would suggest keeping it for originality & resale value. i have a 81 pace car that runs 2 seconds faster than stock numbers & a little faster than a stock 78 400 & is 99% stock. check out 301 garage for all the info you will ever need for your car & the 301T engine. |
