Yes it got blasted with the rest of the car. I thought it was steel I'll have to check. it was black when I got it but I can tell it got a rattle can fresh up at some point. I assumed it was black but I can't say.

I have the paperwork and it was sold at Wayne Pontiac at View Masa Ave in San Francisco and delivered into service on 2-26-66.

he dealer must have gone out of business a long time ago I couldn't fine anything about them.

I found a 1965 option price list , Special Paint / Tiger Gold was $40.19
Will probably be the same or close - in 1966.
By 1969 it was right at $100 for most Special Paint colors.

Trim Tags were aluminum.
Thank goodness your blast method wasn't sandblasting - it would have ruined the tag.
Have seen some that were ruined - barely legible at all.

Interesting. I wish there was some record of how many special order color cars were made but I guess there isn't. PHS said Tiger Gold is the most common but he wouldn't guess at how many that was.

I wish I had known those were aluminum I would have taped it off. it will look fine after painting but it would have been better to not blast it at all.

I've heard of more 65's being Tiger Gold , than 66's.
But that would have been the majority color of the special paint cars in 65 and 66.
In 67 they had a pretty good Gold color in the standard choices.

In 1965 it was paint code 2

Default '66 A.I.R parts

I have many of the parts for a complete setup and I have an original intact system operating on my car.

I really can't answer that because he had resprayed the engine bay at some point. if I had to guess just because of the guy he was he would have masked it had it not been painted. but I can't say for sure.

As an update , I took the car to my painter yesterday, after being stalled for 8 months progress will resume .

I'm not sure if it's like this everywhere but finding a really good painter at a reasonable price is like looking for a unicorn these days. I've known this guy for years and he always does an outstanding job, but he's about done himself. this will be the only car he does this year he told me he just has too many other things to do .

Way cool to hear about...potential paint job!!!
If it gets done this year, I'd call that a major victory!!!

Wheel Vintiques makes 15X8 Rally II wheels. They have a website. their reputation for shipping on time is not good...They show a 4" and a 4.5" back spacing in their 15X8 wheel

He should have it done early this summer. that's the plan anyway, he's was the BASF factory rep for years his knowledge base and experience makes him the fastest most efficient painter I've ever seen. cure times are the only thing that slows him down.

I have a set of 15x7 Rally II's I'm in the process of restoring to go on it. probably kind of dumb since the PHS says it came with Rally I's , but I just don't care for them.

I don"t hate the Rally I's, but 14" tires on any car, just does not excite me....
I have one that I had my buddy blast, that is very pitted. I have been experimenting with different paint schemes on it. Trying to make one of the Rally II's look similar to a Cragar SS wheel...not sure if it's possible...Of course you may want yours looking stock.

What color would you paint your Rally II's for your car???

I'm going to paint them back to stock. the Chrysler charcoal is very close to the original I've used it before.

Then with the red PMD caps and lug nuts. again not original, but it looks sharp and it's easy to correct if desired.

I think that will look best!!!
I've seen a few rally II's that were painted body color on 76-79 firebirds and maybe even T/A's...I did not care for...of course my TA is black, my wheels were black...

That wheel is a pitted junker. I may try something different. Might look better with trim ring...

Number “2” indicates Black upper body (Black painted, Black Cordova, Black convertible).

Pretty slow. I hoped to have it home by July but I'm thinking that's not going to happen. I suppose it doesn't matter I won't have any time until later this year anyway.

That color looks good, a little more gold and less tan than the original but close enough to pass for Tiger Gold.

Is it a modern color or did you do a custom mix ? I'm getting close to a color I like but I haven't nailed it down yet.

Perty! Looks just like mine. I used PPG #22728 Tiger Gold if I remember right. Did no how accurate it is...never compared to a known correct car but I like it
