Default '65 LeMans 326 2v Carb & AC Plumbing

Got it running yesterday.

What is the pot on the left for? Looks like Idle kick up?
I thought it was for AC but my '63 has this also and it does not have AC.

It looks like that's a broken electronic transmission kick down bolted to the rear driver side carb stud. Are replacements available?

AC clutch works when turning it on, but does not blow through vents,. I can hear the blower and feel air through defrost vents. I think as a default, air is routed to defrost when air lines have a leak, or no vacuum. Visibly, the car needs a new vacuum F fitting which will probably provide more vacuum to operate the vents.

I know they make these in metal now which is better than the original yellow plastic ones, prone to cracking.

Will pick up a factory Chassis and AC shop manual to sort some of this out.
I don't think there are any readable PDF versions posted online anywhere.

The pot is called a dashpot, and it is for kicking up the idle on deceleration on the automatic trans cars, such as when coasting down on an exit ramp. I've been told it's needed to prevent stalling. I'm in a similar spot to you right now, reinstalling all of my A/C components but i did a full frame off so all of that stuff i have removed and rebuilt. Chances are pretty good that you have a bad vacuum motor or two. That one in the picture on the blower case usually dry rots inside from all of the underhood heat. That one under the hood controls whether the blower air is drawn from inside or outside the car .Check and make sure it holds vacuum. The vacuum motors in my picture are the ones that control where the air blows out inside the car. Not being snippy, but i will point out that the valve cover on the driver side is on backwards if you care. I just put mine on and found out after i got the RTV on and bolted down. Had to take it all back apart and re do it. I've your kickdown switch on e-pay, usually around $100 or a little more.

Thanks for pointing out about the valve cover backwards. That is probably why the air cleaner vacuum pipe doesn't fit right.

I need to see if the dashpot is working. Probably not. It does want to stall out when I put it in gear.

I need to also see if there is a part number printed on the kickdown switch so I can find a new one on ebay.

Factory AC cars are great. They were a common option in California.

What rear gear ratio would a 326 2bbl Auto A/C car have gotten?

Chris

I recently found a NOS dashpot on Ebay. I want to say i paid around $30 for it. It's a Borg Warner, which i suspect was probably making them for GM anyway. My car started out the same as yours, 65 Lemans with automatic and factory air. It also had the 2:93 rear axle.

Does the 2bbl Lemans 326 get the same F nylon PCV fitting as the Tripower and 4bbl engines?

Part N210M in the Ames catalog.

Also, what could be causing stalling when shifting into gear when not fully warmed up?

Do you happen to still have the PN for the dashpot on ebay?

Anti-Stall dash pot.

The MPC shows T/8 Auto 2bbl. #7020587

T/8 Auto 4bbl. #7019951

NOS 4bbl. shown below and how it looks on my car.
When the car tends to die, the plunger pushes out against the carb lever to kick up the idle.
Works as designed.

Chris.

Looks like the 4bbl version has a different bracket than 2bbl version.
I bought this one:

https://www.ebay.com/itm/NOS-1963-67...7/333425088026

Does the A/C-equipped Tri-power use this same dash pot unit? Because it too wants to stall when you switch on the AC. compressor.
I didn't see a reference for Tripower 65 on the list.

Water pump leaking from shaft. Repair in bottle only worked temporarily.
NAPA replacement pumps any good?

Where does the vacuum hose plug into? The back of the carb center port block, or the stud port?

How should it be adjusted? So the screw is touching the throttle arm with the engine off, choke high idle cam off?

From the drawing, it looks like it should plug into the carb stud port. Now, I just need to determine the proper screw adjustment.

elefantrider ,
2 questions,
Did you get a method to adjust your Dashpot on your Rochester 2Jet?

And did you verify if the vacuum stud port in the carb hold down stud is meant to go to the Dashpot, or does the vacuum signal come from the fitting behind the carb?

John
