Default Better solvent?

I don't have room for a parts washer in my closet-sized build room. For years I've been using kerosene or diesel in a closed bucket to clean pushrods, roller lifters, rocker arms, etc. and painted stuff like valley pans and timing chain covers.

Anybody use a readily available and inexpensive alternative?? Where bought?
