Emblem repair
Anyone ever try to repair these with any success? The one is from a '66 grille and the other is from the tail panel of a '66 Tempest Custom. I've replaced them both, but I could never find one like this tail panel emblem with white painted letters.

I've had a small amount of luck with Super Glue, but not for long. It eventually breaks again. I decided to buy a replacement, and then glue my original together to sit on the shelf.

I think the '66 was the last year for the painted inside of the lettering.
As I'm you know these are somewhat hard to find in good condition. The '67 is a completely different design that some think will work, but it will not. I would make a flat metal jig/plate with needed holes punched for the pins and make sure it all lines up and is flat. Once satisfied Clean both area real well and clamp it onto the metal via speed nuts. I would try to use small amounts of JB weld for the bonding. Cover the plate with foil so the weld will not bond to the plate. Its worth a shot.

Thanks for the suggestions, guys.
Bob, thank you for your kind offer, but I did replace the grill emblem already. Cheers. |

Once broken the emblem is almost impossible to repair seeing it was potmetal. As Jeff says there is a small chance to "weld" it together using JB Weld. I've tried with something, I can't remember what it was (I don't think they had JB Weld back then, but may it's what I used), and it didn't last long enough to put it back on the grill... no matter how careful I was. I tried 3 times, gave up and bought a replacement. And that was back in 1973 when I had the 66 Tempest Custom.
Actually the replacement ended up to be the complete change-over to the GTO front grills and lights... all for $75.00 at a Pontiac dealer down the street from me in Rochester, NY.
