Is backing it down after a pass as effective at pushing any residual fuel in the cylinders out the exhaust valves in a wedge or canted valve "wedge" like it is in a 426 Hemi style head?

Probably not, but it's worth the effort to try. By far the single most important thing to do after the run is to ground the coil. And shutting the fuel off to kill the engine at the end of a run SHOULD purge fuel out of the system.
