Perry, 2 or 3 other guys mentioned that prospect also in the other discussion about the 64 GTO Hood in the "Parts you would like to see reproduced" thread listed under PY Stuff in the General Forums list. You could add your interest to that listing.

It's a good idea and would serve a lot of peoples needs. But the guys waiting to do bucks up restos on high pedigreed cars are still going to hold out for a full quality panel. Whether it be used or new. A lower skin/patch panel for the outer backside of the 64 Trunk Lid would help a lot, too.

Your 64 and my car are virtually identical except my car had spinners when it was new. Your car have black or red interior?

my car came with the spinners I have them and switch them back and forth . the interior is black . The car had the original black top on it when I bought it in 77 I put the white top on personal choise it's the only thing not correct on the car and an easy fix but I bon't plan on ever selling it so no big deal . I still have the car I drove to school . It has 50 ooo on it 56 T Bird don't ever plan on selling that either .

3Duce: 3 of them? Whoa, you better have them locked up in the dry. I've bought whole cars a lot cheaper than this hood. In fact, before the auction ends this one may even come close to the original sticker price on my 64 convertible!

3D: My son wanted to drop a 421, 455, or even a newer crate engine into the Lemans to replace the original 326. Since the car is "numbers matching" I wouldn't let him. The 326 runs great. The thing I really liked about it was that it was big enough to sound good and have a reasonable amount of "go" when you get on it, but it was not so strong that he, at age 16 then, would lose control of it. He has since gone off to college, left the car here and taken up with F bodies. He currently drives a 98 TA with an LS1 and a 6 speed. Plenty to get into trouble with, but he's also got three more years of driving experience, so I feel a little better about it.

Oh, and I will always be a Pontiac guy. 396, 427, 454??? Do those numbers mean anything or is someone going to holler "hike?"

I think you missed the point Pontiac didn't make a small block back then only chevy made small block . I was busting on you for the term big block and Pontiac in the same breath . Small cube or big cube . so when someone says they are going to put a big block in their Pontiac I would think they ment Chevy .

Now you're not calling a 326 a "big block" are you? It's not even as big as a Chevy 327 which I would hardly call a big block. To me, to be considered big it has to be almost, if not over, 400 cubes.

326 350 389 400 421 428 455 are basicly the same blocks in size meaning their parts can interchange .unlike a chevy small block 283 305 327 350 400 and the big block 348 409 427 454 502 . that's all Pontiac didn't make a small block . until the 70's with that odd ball one where only the valve covers will interchange

I dunno Ron, but I'll want one for my '64 Conv eventually, and if they were to be reasonable enough, I'd like one for my wagon.

I can also say that I recently traded off a PHS documented GTO to my buddy that has long since been without it's hood. You know it'll have to get one someday.

I didn't realize this thread was so old. But I will add my 2 cents worth in here. I have been doing some consulting work for AMD (Auto Metal Direct) actually since before they even had a building or a product to sell. Now they are the largest Mopar sheet metal supplier in the US, all in less than 3 years. When they started out, they were going to start out with hoods and bumpers for all makes. One of the hoods that came up to do was a 64 GTO. After some research, it was nixed at the start because of 1. It was a one year only deal. 2. The market was so limited. If you think about it, there were only x amount of 64 Lemans or Tempest built. How many of those are remaining? Of those that are remaining, how many actually need a hood and how many of those would buy a GTO hood? And then add the few GTO's that were produced and still remain that MAY need a hood. You see that you have a very limited market.

Reading back, I see Andre had a figure of $600 per hood. I find this very optimistic, even in 2005 dollars. Not saying that it couldn't be done at that price back then, but that would be a distributor type price, with no room for dealers such as PY to handle it and make any money.

If anyone were to attempt it today, I would expect a selling price of 2 grand or more.
