Like anyplace, there are parts where out-of-owners unfamiliar with the big city shouldn't go at night, but there are a number of companies offering guided day tours of the Detroit ruins. It''s a pretty big tourist business.

Never been to Detroit, but im sure its like a lot of big cities. Good and bad. There are places in Bmore I wouldn't go to driving a tank, but there are ok to good spots as well. I was in LA one time, got off to get gas in Torrence I think, asked the Hispanic cop I saw there for directions. He told me to get back on the interstate and out of town!!

There are 'hoods in Wilm. DE like that. I will casually cruise trying not to stop at any redlights.

If you can get a hold of Tim Dye, and he is around you can usually set up a visit to the not yet open Pontiac Automotive Museum in Pontiac MI.

PM me if you want his Phone Number.

The Picture is from last fall when I took 2006 Mallet Solstice #24 to Visit its Brother #23 in the Museum.

In the worst parts of town around here the stoplights are not turned on.

In the early 90's we were installing electrical equipment at a pot & pan manufacturer in the Bronx. We had a brand new, bright white Chevy box truck. Our customer saw our truck and said "get that thing inside the building before they strip it to the frame!!!!"

Thanks for all the great suggestions. basically we fly in the morning of July 31st then spending the night in Jackson, Mi before heading down US 127 for the world's longest yard sale. So not a lot of time in Detroit. Was a bucket list thing for my wife and her mom. But her mom's health always prevented them from doing this. She passed in Feb 2018. So this year my wife and two of her sisters and spouses will do the trek from Addison, Mi to Chattanooga from Aug 1-4. She puts up with all my car stuff so there was no way I could say no to her on this. Plus you never know what I might find along the way.

I always wanted to do that yard sale. The problem is that I would need a 38' trailer and a hell of lot of money.

You are going to be about an hour from the Gilmore Museum.

You will be closer to it than I am.

If you've only got the one day, skip downtown Detroit. Just head west on I-94 to the Gilmore Car Museum near Battle Creek, or my second choice would be to hang out in downtown Ann Arbor.

The greenies in the liberal left center of Michigan probably won't like another car in Ann Arbor.

Car museum, I doubt many people here would fit in Ann Arbor that well...
