I'm sure there were at least 200K people buying into Elon's 90% autonomous car back in 2013, which was due in 2016.

I think a lot of the cars are capable, software just not 'turned on' yet?

There are plenty of the Model 3 cars on the road, I see them daily. However, I think what he's saying is they haven't sold any for the $35k price that was initially promised.

I will say as a city building inspector the number of electric car outlets inspections are on the rise. As well as the number of Tesla car around town.
I can see this trend continuing.

How many of these preorders are speculation? There are people who will pay a premium to be 'first'. I guarantee that if concerts offered refundable deposits, ticket scalpers would gobble up EVERY seat that's available. And environmentalists are quick to support a champion of their cause. These 200K 'orders' could literally evaporate overnight, as not a single one of them has actually committed to buying anything.
Talk about counting your chickens before they've hatched. |

Reminds me of that kid without a dad or one who didn't give a flying f when asked for help designing his Pinewood Derby Car.

My point is, Elon’s design was modern, winning and cutting edge at one time - but that was 40 years ago. (Like the Lamborghini Countach.)

I'm not saying that you shouldn't be interested in a $40,000 truck with all those capabilities. I was just pointing out that the $40,000 truck doesn't have the range or towing capacity. That is the $69,900 version. For $40,000 you will get a truck with half the range and towing capacity - when, where and if ever Elon Musk ever decides to build it. Musk has a history of over promising and under delivering. |

When they started selling Model 3's back in 2017 (with the full tax credit available), the average selling price was around $60,000 - for a car that was promoted in 2016 as a $35,000 car.
That's what 500,000 people paid a $1,000 deposit for. Musk claimed that by the end of 2017 he'd be building 10,000 Model 3's per week (that's 520,000 per year). It's nearly the end of 2019 and as you point out he's still only sold 190,000 Model 3's. January 1, 2019 the tax credit dropped to $3750. On July 1, 2019 it dropped to $1750. January 1, 2020 it totally gone. And the cheapest Model 3 you can order today is $38,990 (they don't prebuild any of the base models). |

The whole thing with this truck is to make it stand out. There are so many products out there, you have to "burn through" all the noise and establish an awareness in the public's mind of your product. This truck design certainly does it. Its non-conventional, but somehow I think once it starts getting out there, it will be setting the standard others will follow. Just like the model S. That car has been out 7 years and there is still nothing that close. Say what you want - Musk is a leader, he doesn't take cues from anyone, and so far, its working.

Breaking those 2 windows has gotten Tesla free publicity on all media for a week 24/7. I've seen that clip probably 15 times, dumb like a fox...……….

Well, on the upside, like a modern stealth fighter, bomber, ship, etc., maybe these things are radar proof! Think about it. lol

The idea is good, the revealed concept design is just really really bad.
okay Terrible It already looks outdated. Looks like something that was attempting a futuristic design - in the 1970's. Or homebuilt in the garage with readily available scraps and an S-10 chassis. Power to the People if they want it |

In less than 30 days, Musk realized that he can't build a $39,900 truck, just like he couldn't build a $35,000 Model 3. But, shocker here, the MOST expensive Cybertruck - the $69,900 version, will hit production in 2021... This is the new production schedule: Single Motor RWD: “Fully refundable. You will be able to complete your configuration as production nears in late 2021. Single Motor RWD production is expected to begin in late 2022.” Dual Motor AWD: “Fully refundable. You will be able to complete your configuration as production nears in late 2021. Dual Motor AWD production is expected in late 2021.” Tri Motor AWD: “Fully refundable. You will be able to complete your configuration as production nears in late 2021. Tri Motor AWD production is expected in late 2021.” Those peons that want a $39,900 Cybertruck can wait... BTW - it was the $69,900 Tri Motor AWD that was pulling that 2WD F150... |
