1st thing I did when I landed in Hawaii was right to the Arizona memorial.
No, I personally will never forget I just watched that new version of "Midway"....I will say it's better than that recent Pearl Harbor movie...that was bad

Taken from the memorial in 2016 - the 75th anniversary....
And from the shore - I sure wish we would have been better prepared to use these... |

They buried a local Marine yesterday. He was killed on the Oklahoma, they identified his remains a while back, and buried him yesterday in the local cemetery with his family.

Interesting that you hardly hear about it anymore. Almost like it's no longer PC to bring it up. Sad commentary on our times.

Quote:
What happens is there is simply less personal connection as time goes on. It used to be that everyone had a parent or relative who served during WWII, but there just aren't that many of those people left. I think only about a dozen vets were able to attend the ceremonies at Pearl Harbor this year. Every major event in the nation's past has eventually evolved from personal experience, to first hand stories from those who were there, to memories of those stories, to something that mainly exists in the history books. It's been happening since the Revolutionary War; it's happening now for Korean vets too, and will be the same story soon for Vietnam vets. In fifty years it will be the same story for those who fought in the Middle East, and in one hundred years it will be the same for those who fought in some other future war. |

Sure got them back good, though. America was never more unified as a country and in her response. I am only sorry that the response wasn't the same after 9/11.

Isolationism is what kept us out of the WW2 early on. When you only care about your own country you get places like **** Germany. It is not easy being a global power but we should never turn our back on allies who have helped us. Seems like some lessons are hard to learn. After 9/11 Americans came together like never before or since. Terrorists attacked Americans on that day not a color of America but Americans. They got a response from a United America, you can run but you can’t hide.
