I just dropped off my dash to be rebuilt yesterday but I'm pretty sure it had the pebble grain. May built Fremont car.
Somewhere I have a small sample of the dash cover. I'll see if I can locate it today.

Mine is like your top one, Madrid grain vinyl. Arlington built April 68.

I had an August '67 Kansas City car (vin was around 2000) that had a pebble grain pad. My May '68 Arlington car has Madrid.

Most of mine are like the top unit. I will be up in the garage attic later this week and will look at my stash there to see what I find

Thumbing through the GTO Resto Guide today and found this section on dashpads that seems relevant to this thread. Apparently there was a revision to the pads in '68.

The last paragraph of that passage (referring to the map light) is wrong.

Agreed the paragraph couId have been written better but I think Paul was referring to the general area of the dash pad.
Although if you didn't have any previous knowledge of 68 dash pads you could be misinformed by that sentence.

Actually, I'm not sure what he meant. I assumed he meant that only non-ac cars had the lamp but I don't know.
By the way, I looked at my VIN and I can see why the rivets don't show up on some cars. If my dash pad was a quarter inch longer front to back you wouldn't be able to see them on mine either. Sent from my moto g(6) play using Tapatalk

I don't think I've ever seen a 68 with AC that did NOT have the courtesy lamp. At least all three 68's I've had with AC had the light also.
Come to think of it .... they were all Lemans or GTO. Wonder if the plain Tempest had a different setup. |

Not having A/C I assumed (wrongly) that the A/C cars didn't have it since the center ducting interfered with its placement. Learned something new today.
According to the AMA specs and Pontiac literature, the courtesy light was standard on the 237, 239, 242, and the 23567 models

GREAT Question!
My brother's 68 Conv has a nice "Pinpoint grain" dashpad non-AC. Oddball in my travels. Every 68 dashpad i've came acrose was AC and "Madrid grain" or to my figuring a nice pattern of compelling quality, like 1970 dashpads grain pattern. |
