Making your own bushings/cushsion
I didn't like the repop lower four core radiator mounts being sold (I've go four of them if someone needs some). So I decided to make a copy of the one good original four core lower mount/cushion.
I ordered some 1" thick SBR rubber, the same stuff used for 80% of all automotive rubber and started cutting, grinding, sanding etc. Ended up with a usable piece. The home made cushion. The original OEM cushion. The repop next to the original. Not sure why but the repop is tapered, too short in total length, and too short in the groove. Can be modified to work .. .but jeez, how many of these parts are they going to sell us 68 guys that "need modification" |

Looks Good!
I had a thread on the rubber mounts about a year ago. Bottoms were pretty std I think, but the tops got weird with the heavy duty cooling radiators. I gto4evr got me the correct top ones & I think there are several different styles.

I bought a piece of Medium Hard SBR rubber ... 1" thick, by 6" x 12" for about $14 from McMaster .... appears to be the same thing used for radiator mounts, body mounts, probably everything except suspension bushings.
Cuts with a band saw, smooths with a 1" belt sander, grinds with a dremel and a course sanding drum, trims with a razor blade. Yes it's tedious, but I have some spare time and for unobtanium, or expensive stuff ...ehhh ... not so bad to make your own if you can. Yes ... evidently everything that fits a 69 will fit a 68 ... whether it does or not I realize 68 was a first year of a new model, and a bit of a red headed step child ... but a lot of places are just plain misleading customers to make a few extra bucks on a repop. |
