I've never seen a Maaco in my area, although I believe there are some in NY state. How many dollars and how much work did they do besides spray paint?

I got mine painted by Maaco's competition next door, and got a comparable single stage job. Not bad, but it's relative... I was so excited when I had something other than a primer-mobile, but the more cars I see (especially some home jobs that are outstanding), the more unsatisfied I am with the quality.
If I was to do it again, I would not settle for what I got. But at least I didn't pay a lot for it.

Hot Rod magazine has a 4 time a year mag called "Paint and Body". The Fall 2005 issue is on the stands now and it has very good article on how to get the most out of a cheap paint job. Covers what to remove, prepping for paint, etc.
This is the second issue of this magazine that I've bought and they are both FULL of good info. Tips and good pics throughout on everything from panel replacement to painting. Almost an infomercial for Goodmark industries but that doesn't dilute the content.

we have one here.the ones i've seen are pretty bad.bad orange peel.the guy next door at the taxi place said he would paint my car.he does about 6 to 7 vans or cars a year. i was going to give him my shaker and have him paint it to see how he does.he said i buy the paint and he'll shoot it for free.

the problem with most MAACO paint jobs is the lack of prep work. I have visited a couple places and have seen the lack of prep. I have talked to the manager about their procedure. I wanted info for the kids I teach. If you have not a lot of money, you could do the prep yourself and have MAACO spray it. However, I would never trust them to do correct prep (

Pick up the issue I mentioned in my other post. This is exactly what it addresses in the article on getting the most for a cheap paint job. It agrees that the prep work is what the production houses skip and it details what needs to be done before you deliver the car.. Besides that, the issue is full of good info on body work.

Pete, you're absoultey right. The prep is key. After seeing how my local Maaco did their prep, I did my own before they painted it. It's been just over a year, and so for its still looking good.

I just called the other day to get a cavlier painted.(Its purpleright now so I am sure most would understand)) Thier cheapest was they wanted 300 for same color that was on there or add 50.00 if you want a color change. This does not include jams, trunk or under the hood. Thier best paint was a BC/CC and they wanted 1200 for that. If they were going to be going over any of my bodywork or prep they would not warranty the paint. Otherwise paint is warrarntied(sp) for 1 year.

I may be looking to get a cheapy job done on the race car...and it'll likely be Maaco. I'll prep/have it prepped before it goes in. From what I understand, any idiot can spray a car, but it takes hard work and knowledge to prep it properly. I just want my car to be all the same color...and look good at 120 mph!
