Just an FYI, I've been working with Tim Dye from the Pontiac Museum (Pontiac IL) on a project, and after doing some research on other topics, I uncovered some unique documentation on the 1973 Ram Air setup that may be quite interesting for you A-Body guys. Tim Dye (Pontiac Museum) granted me permission to post a few pics on this site. He is also going to provide with me with some pics of the underside of the Tom Goad system.

This is a pic of the original blueprints for the 1973 Ram Air system. The original technical drawings are huge, approximately 18" x 24". I have many more of the solenoid, hood, and scoops, but have to sort through all the info I have first. All dimensions are shown on these are the original blueprints. There's much more detail than can be shown here in the thumbnail, but didn't want to oversize a pic within this thread.

Alvin, I'm not a member of the A-Body site, but have had contact with Horst in the past, and he contributed pics and info for my Ram Air Rarities article. Please forward to the A-Body site as necessary.

Have a lot of detailed blueprints used for the manufacturing of the hood, scoops, and ram air setup, courtesy of the Pontiac Museum. As I mentioned, the blueprints are too large, and my camera may lose some details, but all the dimensions are here (on several large sheets) for the manufacturing of the hood, scoops, ram air tub, and solenoid.

Tom's wagon should be on display soon!

Also have detailed pics of the Ram Air setup off Tom's car. They are too big to upload, so I will have to reduce them and re-upload.

The Pontiac Museum is a great resource for information!

This just keeps getting more interesting. Mike, do you have the prints or are they still with Tim? If I can get a scan of them, I can put them into a modern CAD program.
I wonder If Tom Goad's initials are on the prints anywhere. John Sawruk said he was involved with this too.

This isn't a hard make. Just need the measurements and the buddy that will make time to cut it out on lazer. Its forming the lid is the big part.

Horst, Tim has the blueprints. He asked me to post a few pics of the type of material they have at the museum. I have a lot more blueprint pics, some closeups.

The blueprint of the hood scoop was drawn 01/21/72 (name hard to read).
The blueprint of the tub was drawn 01/24/72 by R. Hutchinson.
The blueprint of the solenoid was drawn 05/30/72 by J. King.

I downsized the pics of Tom's air cleaner for you guys.

Side view (portion of the full drawing) of the air cleaner. There are dozens of detailed dimensions on these drawings.

Thanks Mike! I see it uses the 74 GTO style solenoid as does the Minnesota 73 GTO. The assembly print shows the 71-72 Trans Am style dual solenoids. Maybe they were evaluating both.
The oval logo under the lid should be the initials or name of the company that molded it. I can't quite make it out, can you?

Hope this helps you guys out!

Also, here's the original drawing for the solenoid, again courtesy of the Pontiac Museum.

Thanks again! No links for Hi-Ram, but I found the purchasing manager at the time:
https://www.linkedin.com/pub/tom-cameron/10/823/9a3
Note the 74 GTO solenoid is not being reproduced AFAIK.

AMP PLASTICS GROUP INC might still exist if it's the same company. No website . Typically these companies won't remember anything about what they did 42 years ago.

I would sure like to have a copy of the drawings. That is awesome. That would just be the icing on the cake for my SD GP build. I still have not moved on mine as of yet. Too many other things to do. It will happen. Thanks for the info Mike.

Default 73 ram air system

Hi. Just to let you know I am working on a new reproduction ram air system. Metal work has been formed just welding it up. I have made some slight adjustments to the look . After seeing the actual blueprints I was able to get a more accurate look , to the hump and the front arch. The flapper door will be more accurate as well . It will be powder coated a satin / low gloss black . Will be fully functional except for the carb modification .Hopefully will be ready in a couple of months to get everything together .
